CONTROLL (A) ARM refurbish?

i have an 1984 944 with i assume is stock a arms, bushing, and ball joints.

i think i heard that the early came with steel arms. what would be the proper parts list to rebuild the ball joints and bushings?

are the early even rebuildable? if not what would be the recommend path to take? im at the point where the right side basically doesnt even have a bushing in the controll arm. i can see where it was and the rubber is shredded.

The arms are rebuildable. You want the rear and front bushings aswell as the balljoints. Total cost of parts per arm will run about $60. If the arm itself is looking beat
(rust) new bare arms are about $25 each.

Rennbay's kit only works on the aluminum arms. The steel arms are much more simple and cheap to rebuild.

The early steel control arms are easy as all get out to do the ball joints - no rebuilding. Just pop a new one in place (for $16.75) and you're on your way.

The front bushing (if it's that) is about $5.00. I just wish it were the same for the late control arms...

Oh yeah, you might want to have them seam welded and powder coated while they are off. . .

YES, THE REAR BUSH IS ON BACKWARDS IN THIS PIC.

The old bushing (front one) is fun to get out. Be prepared to drill out 3 rivets per arm to remove the ball joint assembly.

How the hell do you get the rear bushings off, the single piece one (in Rasta's 2nd pic)? And is the metal sleeve supposed to be removed or not?

I burned one off on a spare arm I had, and I think I ruined it trying to remove what I thought was an inner sleeve in the bushing.
