Effect of wheel spacers when effective offset is unchanged?

I have been reading a lot of threads about wheel spacers and there is still something that I am wondering.

I understand that if you use spacers to increase the width between your wheels (ie you use spacers on stock wheels) it is a very bad thing for the suspension, the bearings, etc because of the additional constraints.

However, let's say you have an early offset car (23mm) and want to use earlier wheels (e.g. 55mm offset), which is exactly what I am considering. You need a 32mm spacer to match the original offset that the suspension was intended for. Since the wheel would be in the exact same position as the stock wheel (assuming that you use the same wheel width), is it true that the spacer has almost no negative effect if you use a hub centric that comes with its own studs?

Thank you for any clarification!
