Idle drops off at stoplights

Hi - another question about my 944S.

The car starts up perfectly, idles great and all, but when I slow down 4 a stoplight, the RPM drop right down 2 nothing and bounce back up and it idles rough around 700 - then I give it a shot of gas and it goes back up 2 1000 RPM and idles fine. I find it only does this in "wet" weather or just after I wash it. Does this sound like bad ignition wires or a bad DME?? I know the car has not had new plugs and wires in some time, but would bad wires cause this??

Just yesterday, when coming 2 a stoplight, I notice she was idling around 1700 RPM - now it's 2 high. About 70% of the time it is fine - 25% of the time it idles low and about 5% of the time it's 2 high. Perhaps a idle stabilizer valve or something?? If this is the case, has anyone replaced this and how big a job is it???

Go with the simple things first.

Since it only happens when the car is wet, try replacing your cap, rotor, plugs and wires.

If that doesn't do it, you could have a bad idle stabilizer valve, or a vacuum leak somewhere in that area.

Replacing the Idle stabilizer isn't difficult, just a bit time consuming, you need to take the intake manifold off. Do yourself a favor and take digital photos and/or make a drawing of where all the vacuum lines go.

Hi,

Start with replacing only your plugs. I've had the same problem and the problem was in the plugs only. The damp air that goes into your engine makes bad plugs stall at low rpm's.

I'm gonna pick up spark plugs tonite. Any suggestions on which one's will work best??

I think I'll try plugs, then wires, then distributer, then the idler stabilizer valve. Hopefully I won't make it all the way. Perhaps I'll stop at the plugs (fingers crossed)!!!

Not only does it drop off at stop lights, but sometimes it feels like the gas isn't getting thru when I push the pedal down in hopes of bring the rev's back up - like dirty gas or something - but ONLY at low RPM's. Still the plugs??
