Another lifter problem

Hi All,

My 2.7 944 had noisy lifters (not uncommon), once I pulled the cam box off, I found 2 lifters that were soft and wouldn't pump up. I fitted 2 new genuine lifters and once the car started it was noisy for a while (normal) then went quiet. Over the next few months I noticed the noise coming back. I've done about 2000km's since and the noise is back to how it was a few months ago. I decided to pull the cam box back off and checked everything. I noticed the 2 new lifters were soft and not pumping up, the other 6 lifter are still hard and pumped up (see Youtube Video - 2 old and 2 new lifters that are soft and not pumping up). Does anyone have any ideas?

You are probably better off finding some good used original Porsche lifters. The new lifters being sold as OEM factory parts are not the same as the old ones. They are made by INA and have a bad reputation for reliability. Some have reported almost immediate failure.

Weird thing is, the originals in my motor as well as a used set I got from a parted motor have the diamond shaped INA logo, but also have the little VD triangle thing and it says Germany. I don't know if this picture is accurate, but it may be how the new INA lifter is marked. Definitely not the same.

The 2 lifters I purchased from the dealer are under the 2 year parts warranty and they also have INA stamped on the inside of the lifter. If they are common to fail even when new, I guess I just take them back? I just though it strange that they fail so soon.

Somebody said they successfully returned theirs when they failed so soon, so it would be worth a try. Those stupid things aren't cheap new. Was INA stamped like in the picture above or as a very small logo looking like this? I'm curious, since I have no idea how to tell real ones from the crappy new ones.

Here is a picture of the lifters, 2 left ones are new/stuffed - 2 right ones are the original/stuffed and the same as the other 6 good ones.
