Best Subwoofer trunk box

does anyone have any ideas of a subwoofer box for the truck of a 924 that would be able to fit 2 12" subs??

I've got 2 12's in my spare tire well (using that as the box).......amps hidden inside it too, can't beat that stealthyness

I built a MDF sealed box and mounted two 10" JL Audio 10w6's in the spare wheel well. The box was an easy fab. with a flat bottom and flat top and two angled sides Did not mess with the curves in the spare well, so the angled sides made it easy.

Not really a direct answer to your question, but with careful selection of a head unit, the Bazooka Bass Tubes are really hard to beat in terms of cost, ease of installation, and performance. With a little bit of tuning on my head units, my Bazooka Bass Tubes are PLENTY adequate.

wood,time and fiberglass you can make anything fit. Truck style subs aka pancake subs work best for saving space as they will need less air volume in the box. Have them fire twords the rear for the best low tones.

Or you can just roll with 1 good mtx 400rms sub in an mtx sledgehamer enclosure or build you're own. It will shake yer boogers out LOL

id like to see pic's of those 2 tire well enclosures. i was thinking about takign the bottom half of the rear seat and building on there for my 2 12's but if they can fit in the tire well im all for it

I didn't go for looks on mine. I just built a rectangular box with my two 12" subs in it. Plenty loud for me, but the best part is they're easily removable for track events (I needs me my music on the way there...) I can also put the cargo cover over everything, but in some ways that's just asking for a thief to get in there.

I actually have a handle on the top of the box to make them easier to carry. Also, take a picture of the wiring on your amps if you remove the amps a lot too, so that you can put it all back together quickly and without trying to figure out what does what.

Probably the weakest link, in my opinion, are the front speakers. You just can't get that good of sound quality (or volume) out of 4x6 speakers in the doors, and it's not easy to put different size speakers in there. I left good Kenwoods in there and put in a REALLY good set of Hertz tweeters on the A Pillars facing the driver and passengers.

If you do the lower half of the rear seat idea put up some pictures. I am planning to remove my back seat and probably close in the lower half so I will have the large rear trunk space still and was thinking I would put at least one sub and amp in the enclosure. I haven't gotten that far in my project though so I am open to ideas.

I once had a big box with two 10w7's, driven by a 1K watt amp sitting on top of the folded rear seat. The two 10's were pointed forward and that placed them about 16" behind driver and passenger. Well this was to much to close for the driven subs and wound up moving them. They would actually move in beat a neck chain I had placed over the rear view center mirror, along with head hair sometimes. That close with powered subs was way over the top. Just trying to say if you get the Subs to close with any kind of volume they will not be as comfortable in a rear seat position as that may be to close.

that's the main reason i love the 3sixty2 - it has a remote control knob for sub control - i can quickly and easily roll it up or down as the music dictates, and since it has a 10 band eq just for the sub, plus the onboard deck controls, i am easily able to control the levels and tones

most middle to upper head units have this control for the Preamp output. I agree its very nice to control the bass intensity

mine has that too - the difference is that this is a knob that is easily accessed without having to look or press a button and go through a menu - i can literally change this with each song without any hassle at all

having the 10 bands on the sub doesn't hurt the ability to reduce harmonics either

it also has an adjustable slope crossover

then there are the 31 bands of eq for each of the other 5 channels (yes, it has a center channel) it's not just 1 eq for all 4 channels, or even for a stereo pair, but rather a separate 31 band eq for each channel, complete with time alignment, crossover, yada yada

i am using a treo to control it - a bit small on the screen, and you have to be careful where you put the stylus, but it works - but it's not like i need to get back in there once i'm done either

should i make a whole trunk box that uses up the whole trunk or just a regular box thats only like half the trunk??

how large the enclosure is depends on the design, and the specific requirements of the driver selected

stereo or mono? ported or sealed? passive radiator? 4th order? 6th order?

what are the cu ft requirements of the driver?

lots to consider - do some searching on the web on subwoofer design - there is a ton of info out there - it's not as simple as screwing together a box though if you want it to do anything other than rumble, buzz and growl

or you could just buy a pre-made box from a good car audio shop

I don't travel too far and there is allways somone i can call for help just in case i get a flat so the " make the whole trunk a box" worked for me as i didn't need access to the the spare tire (removed). If you don't mind the weight slowing you down and the arse on the car droping is great. I Made a fiberglass box with a little help I think it came out good for my first firberglass box. A sealed box is the way to go just for simplicity it's realy not the hard to understand how much volume you need for the sub as that info comes with the sub. Measuring volume is pretty easy too. A bag of packing peanuts or similar and a Cardboard box that measures 12"x12"x12". Now you just need to fill the enclosure with the bag of peanuts and see how many times you can fill the cardboard box ( great way to measure custom fiberglass boxes.


If you are on a budget and want a big sound without spending allot of cash making a good vented enclosure using plans from MTX.

Anywo this is what i used to have in my car. Now i just have a 12" sub in a vented enclosure able to handle 400rms ( the real power of a sub) and an amp puting about 900rms for a clean crisp sound

I have a good custom build set up with 6x9s and a 10 inch sub. i made the box then
frames with stretched t-shirt material followed by fierglass and light weight filler.
its in the back area.
