Speedometer help

Replaced the speed sensor with a brand new unit. However, my speedo still does not work! Can someone please help me with this problem. I have checked all fuses and still no speedometer. Is there something that I may have missed? I though this would be a easy fix. Now I'm just waisting money because this is the second sensor that I have purchased.

It might help if you provided a description of your car, model number and year. Diagnosis is predicated upon that information. Best to put that in your commentary section of your profile such as the way mine is set up. Thanks

Very nice car, Jess.. By "sensor", I assume you are talking about the one on the transmission?
Possibly the only other component you could check is the relay. That might be interchangeable with another relay on the relay board so checking that should cost nothing unless you need a replacement. Also, since you bought two sensors, assuming they were both good, you might offer the second one for sale on the classified for sale board here on Pelican..

The one on the transmission is correct. I will be checking for a bad relay today. Thanks for the information. I hope this works.

Unfortunatly, I could not find any information about a relay that has to do with the speedometer operation. The speedometer gear is what generally causes the miles to stop rolling on the car right? I would not think that it would stop the mph reading to stop or does it?

Well grounded

Consider checking and/or redoing the grounds. From the searches I've done on this site, poor chassis and dash grounds will cause a few ills. I plan to do the same to see if it will help my speedo on an '87 944 turbo. When the car has been sitting a few days it won't indicate speed until a few blocks from home. The needle then jumps up and works fine until the next time it sits for a while. I also replaced the sensor and it helped but not a complete cure.

Sorry, I assumed since the speedo was electronic (sensor wise) there must have been a relay like most things electrical and/or Porsche. Apparently I was wrong and I sincerely apologize for the error. I also researched this and located no mention of said relay.
