Another Noobie
Yo, im new to pelican parts, i joined because i just got a porsche, a 944 to be exact. I got this car because Porsches are cool. I want to make this car fast and look cool, so i was wondering where I can get a good bodykit and BIG spoiler to give this car better handeling and style. To make the car faster, I want to put a turbo on it. if that cost too much, i might just get an electric turbo off ebay to get 20hp.
all of the above is just a joke!!!! I just wanted to start my first post like most kids in my school would if they had my car. lol here is my real post. Hi I recently got a Porsche 944 as my first car, I am newly regesterd to Pelican Parts, but I have folowed the forums before. I have been working on cars since I was very young and as soon as I got the 944, I saw that there is enough room where the airbox is to fit an Eaton m90 supercharger. Then I found out that Blown944 did that to his 83 944. I plan to supercharge my 944 but I was woried about the pistons and rods, I know the later model N/A has cast pistons, but I was told that because the 85.5 was a transition year, they still have forged pistions, wich I want. I am not too confident that the 85.5 has forged pistons though as I could not find any thing on the web. I know that the 951 is usualy the easer rout to high performance but I got my 944 for under $1000. And here 951's are $12000. hows that for a first post?

^^Welcome aboard to the crasy world of 944 ownership.Sell it & buy a turbo (just joking) first if you paid under a $1000,oo for it I,m darn sure the car will need major maintenance done on it such as (belts /water pump/ maybe new clutch/brakes ect ect) after that done I will tackle the tune-up side off it dist- cap-rotor -new spark plugs & the best wires you can get witch will be the oe silicone Bosche one.Ok now the fun parts (the suspension) since you don't want to drive what I call "a pig" that will break your bones
out when driving around I'll go first with sport shocks front with matching springs & sport shocks rear, maybe lower the car front approx 1½" /rear 3/4" & make sure all rubber bushings are new all around. Then a good set of tires so that you'll have good road contact. If you add all the cost of work to be done mention above I'm sure you will forget about super charging it.Ok agree with you the car won't be a bomb HP wise but you'll have a ride that you can drive the hell out of it & enjoy. ![]()

Definitely change the timing belt and water pump, unless you have a receipt that it was done within the last year. They are extremely finicky about this. Start with the basics, like Ernie said, which are tires and a good suspension setup.
I would just leave the engine alone and enjoy the handling. When you're ready for more power, just invest in a Turbo model. It's easier and more reliable. They're all fun cars, and they're pretty easy to work on, with the exception of a few things (CLUTCH!!!!), and some things take getting used to. Do you have another car to drive around when the Porsche breaks? Might be the first thing to invest in...

Acualy we looked over the whole car and it is in perfact shape. The guy was selling it because he couldn't start it. so we bought it, changed the fuel pump, and now it runs like a dream. Now the car is parked in the garage so we can change the timming belt. I am very mechanicly inclined, my dad has been building cars hos whole life, and my uncle is a porsche mechanic, so I don't have to worrie about labour cost. And my other uncle works in a heavy machine shop and we are very good friends with the owner, ( who is a Porsche maniac ) so we can fab most parts if we can't buy them. I don't want to be like some others who say that they need there 944 to be way fater, I know I bought a good handeling car, and that is what it was made for.
I want to push this car too the limmit though, to get the most fun out of it. I have been in BMW M5's, 5.0L Mustangs, 11sec Drag Musclecars, and a riced out honda civic :P How does the stock 944 N/A compare to these as far as being fun to drive? Thanks

You can up the hp a little bit with a chip and better exhaust for not so much money compared to a turbo or super charger, but the cars are really about the handling and extracting the most from what you have. The more you invest (personalize) in suspension work and driver environment, the more fun and satisfying the car will be to you. I enjoy the synergy I have with my car and the roads, and don't really worry that some guy in his hopped up diesel pickup can out drag me cause the first corner we take, he will be way out of site of the rear view...(and if I need accelerate quickly, I drive the truck!)

hey noob
Yo! a widebody kit, big rims and an electric turbo! Dat would be fly! A tall spoiler, fart can and racing stickers will make it go faster.
ha ha, whee this is fun! Seriously: welcome to the asylum and congrats. As my esteemed collegues have pointed out TB and possibly WP WYAIT are good preventative measures. Clean your grounds ( all of em) and fusebox. Carry a spare DME relay (ask me how I know that story) OC seals are a possibility (when, not if they go) and check the trans linkage with special attention to that little bolt that should be wired. check the CV bolts for tightness. Alternator, Starter, Clutch slave and master good 2 inspect. Then ther is the normal belts, hoses...well...you get the picture. Fluids filters, the normal stuff. After a good "pre flight" DRIVE the thing. My car didn't start putting out real performance untill it had lots of miles on it. These things HATE to sit and exercising them is just the ticket. A well running 2.5 is a joy and if it doesnt give you enough power....you probably haven't tuned it right.

Here is the story of my car:
A rich guy buys car new and only puts 110,000. Gets too old to keep getting in and out of it. A younger (in 30's) friend keeps begging to have the car. Older guy gives him car for free (really good friend). Younger guy gets it and tryes to drive it, wont start. Tows it home, but can't figure out what is wrong, decides to sell it to make a few extra bucks. I am looking for a first car, my dad says he will split the price. we are looking at Mustangs ant Trans Am's. Then I see a 944 (One of my dream cars) for $1400! Ok.... we go check it out and the car seems fine. then the guy tells us that the car is not getting any fuel. Then we realise that it is just the fuel pump. so we buy it, tow it home, replace the fuel pump, and now it runs, I don't want to drive it until we change the TB. And that is how I got my car for $700

first car?
So...this is your first car and you are a tenager? cool and scary
![]() ![]() OK, IMHO, 944 is a hec of a lot of car for a new driver. They have a tendency to lull you into a false sence of security as they actually handle at speed as opposed to Camaros Firebirds and Mustangs, which, are fine cars in thier own right. If your family trusts you behind the wheel AND knows what these cars are capable of...I am hoping that they believe you are a very mature driver. Yea, I second the TB. the WP...depends on how old it is. Did you get any records? can you ask the dealership to pull its records? was it dealer maintained? If you can't be sure...there are those that will advise you to replace the WP to be on the safe side. If you are in there for the TB you are halfway there and so it makes sence. It depends on your budget. I would check to see if you have the updated type and make the call from there. 110K...It would be nice to know what has been replaced and what hasn't. your first step is to politely ask around for the records. They are not doing anyone else any good and so if the OO or PO has them there is no harm in asking. Specifically, ask if the Clutch is original (red flag...warning...danger will robinson!) the OC seals, and all the other stuff that we are looking at. You have gotten a nice car cheap. Behold my sig. Understand the situation. These cars can last forever. The engines don't really wear out. However, there is a price to be paid for driving a Porsche and there will be some issues. The trick is to find them before they find you.

anyway... regarding my origional question, does the 85.5 944 still have forged pistions and rods? If not, I will probably still put the eaton SC on it because they are only about $160 but just keep the boost at a minimum, Just to eaven out the power to handeling of this car, and also I like the SC sound
![]() I KNOW!!!! I can Just get the turbo tip whistler that you bolt onto the end of the tailpipe!!! NO!!! GET OUT OF ME TEENAGE RICER MENTALITY!!.................................... Sorry about that guys ;D

The friend that owns the machine shop pays into the vin search thing so I can ask him to pull the records for me, Infact he will want to see the records so see exactly what I am driving.

hilarity ensues
Heh heh,
Just get her running....STOCK. That is all you will need. If it isn't good enough you either a) haven't tuned her correctly, or, b) don't know how to drive her. Come back to this issue after you have driven the car. If you can say with a straight face that you need boost, there are several options. Best one being buying a turbo 944, which are even more of a headache to live with (but soo much fun !) Driving a 944 will cure you of your ricer tendencies. She will either teach you to drive or kill you, I am not kidding. Be careful and don't swoon to the siren song when those cams start to open up around 3.5K Porsches.....What all rice rockets want to be when they "grow up"

LOL
The eaton M90 Supercharger is the same one that "Blown944" used on lil mule to supercharge it. they range from $100 - $250 on ebay, or I could pick one up from the local auto wreker for $60. The Max boost you should do on a stock na so as to not wreck anything is around 7psi.

Where in Canada are you?
Are you going to drive it in the winter? If so, you'll quickly get used to doing everything smoothly and looking waaaaaaaaay ahead! Edit: sorry, I don't have anything to add re: your original question!
