I think the 83 2.5 had forged rods. The 951 might have as well. . .I'm sure someone will pipe up.

all 951 internals are forged , the rods can handle about 500 hp, nice and beefy. get the crank nitrided if your racing,

The early Series 1 car, the 83 was forged internals but that changed in 84. Then only the crank was forged, the rods and pistons cast. The 85.5+NAs only had the forged crank whereas the 951 cars were forged internals. I don't know that I would believe the stock rods of a turbo can handle 500 hp or Carillo, Pauter, Wossner, Arias (to name but a few) would not be used in high horsepower applications.

Ok, this is weird. The section on connecting rods calls the early rods sintered, but the spec sheet at the beginning of the manual calls them forged. The crank is forged.

HondaDustR, I don't remember where I read it, but some racing guys claimed the 83 rods were forged, ulike the later year NAs. Hopefully someone will pipe up with the explanation.

i can verify the 83 having forged internals, when i tore mine down for rebuild i expected to find cast. but all the stock parts are forged steel.

I used an 83 short block in my car for just that reason.

Just like the FSM pages posted by HondaDustr states: initially forged, then cast from 2/84 forward.

*"Sintering" is a forging process, AKA "powder forging"
