Time to buy a DME?

I did the jumper wire from the battery to the coil on my 1984 944 the engine will crank but still does not fire . the in line spark tester from the coil to the distributer cap did not light up . The plugs have been replaced .The fuses tested ok. DME relay tested ok , fuelpump and filter have been replaced , injectors have been rebuilt. fuel flow tested ok . I inspected under the dash and did not find any water dammage. I opened up the DME and did not find anything obviously wrong. the ribbons connectng the two boards looked ok . Is it time to buy a new DME? Also will the engine still crank with a bad starter switch?

Do you know anyone that has an early 944? If you do I would see if I could borrow it.

Did you make sure the engine is grounded properly? You wouldn't get any spark if it isn't grounded. It happened to me so I'm just throwing it out there.

how are the speed/reference sensors? how are their plugs?

I'd look there first. one of my connectors broke out of the blue (with my boss in the car, no less) and it wouldn't do anything. the connectors are at 6 o'clock in the picture above.

yes, dou didnt mention that you tested the reference sensors. Taking you car to a shop is the true way of testing the sensors, but a quick way to check them is to try and start the car and to watch the tach. If the tach bounces, then the sensors are OK. Sensors deal with the DME, DME relay, and fuel pump, and injectors. Forget exactly how, but they are related. Good Luck
