need help with warning lights on instrument cluster

I pulled the bulb out today on the backside of my cluster because the warning light for the air bag was driving me crazy. It worked and there is no more warning light for the air bag but now the rest of the cluster does not light up with the headlights on. The other warning lights still work fine but the actual cluster itself does not illuminate at night time. Any idea if that one bulb is required to complete the circuitry and if it is, are there any other ways around this? Would a possible solution be to put a burnt out bulb in its place?

1990 944S2; I'm not sure if this will help/ I removed my cluster to replace the odometer gear. All went well with gear replacement, however I drove the car with cluster removed-big mistake. After I re-installed the cluster the master caution (!), airbag & seatbelt warning lights stayed illiminated. After several telephone conversations with my local shop and several other conversations with a speedo shop, it was determined my master warning circuitry had to be reset. My local shop reset this circuitry for me. System has worked normally since the reset. Hope this helps

Terry

Good call Manny. I am going to check that fuse first thing tomorrow. I'll let you know how I make out. Thanks

Terry, the same thing happened to me on my '88 turbo-S. Not only was the air bag light on but so was the seat belt light and also the master caution (!). It happened to my car after a shop replaced the OEM air bag steering wheel with an after-market one. In the process, they must've tripped some code. After many failed attempts, they were never able to successfully reset it.

I actually removed all three bulbs. So none of the problematic warning lights are on anymore. All of the other warning lights still function properly. Such as the parking light when they're turned on. The main background lights that illuminate the whole cluster face are out when I turn on the headlights. I am going to look at the fuse and if it's not that then I am going to look into finding a shop that could reset it for me. Thanks for the helpful advice.
