#3 Spark Plug won't budge! OH NO!
I had some temp. ac delco's in the 951 until my NGK 7's came in, and I went out to put'em in today, and unlike the last ones I took out, they came out EASY no little bindings or anything. EXCEPT #3! It's binding, I've tried to move my angle on it and everything! OH NO! It doesn't seem to want to budge! What do you think happened? The car does run fine, FAST FAST FAST. Should I leave it in there and put the other 3 in, then take it to someone who can maybe do something else to get it out? OR should I get a like 3 foot pull handle and just force it out (I guess my statehood is showing up in that statement (ALABAMA)) I guess it's cross threaded or something, it's like It's tightening either way I go! OH NO!
___________________ What could some of the 'catastrophic' effects be? P.S. - The plug isn't fully in now either, it started to loosen then stopped and binded up, what would be the best bet overall? -Try to take it out? -Leave it partially in or what not. -Try to just get it into working place by tightening it again somehow or another -Putting the car on a trailer and taking it somewhere? The 3rd option sounds OK to me, it seems like a better idea than trying to get it out, I figure that it's pretty close to in already. If I try to take it out, it could break, screw the threads more, and then not be able to put a new one back in. If I try to get it back in place it seems that I might mess the bottom threads up some, have a working plug & car, and TIME to decide where I want to take it, etc etc. Let's hear from you guys!

Wow, I'd have a professional try to remove #3. Cross-threading a cylinder head is pretty bad news. Only time I heard of that happening was with a buddy's Civic, he had an independant tune the car and they cross-threaded the #2 plug. $1500 later...

It doesn't seem to want to budge?
It could just be siezed up in there (You did use anti-sieze didn't you??) Then again, if you put it in crooked and stripped the threads on the head out....all I can say is you poor bast*rd. I would try to remove it with a bigger (longer) wrench. When (if) you can get it out, inspect the threads on the plug AND in the head completely for damage. If they are damaged, tow the car to a shop and inquire into the possibility of getting it rethreaded. Use anti-sieze on the threads of your new plugs. Wish you a lot of luck on this one AFJuvat |

Might wanna try removing it with the engine warm, aluminum expands more than steel, so it should be easier with it warm.

Heat is what I was going to suggest. Warm engine and maybe use a torch to warm the area or plug.
Good luck. Eric

it came out, but now I have the NGK Copper BP7ES's in there, and the car seems to run ROUGH, more so at the low RPM's and it changes some when boost comes in, I hope it's not somethinge else! It almost seems to be shaking or something.

Did you gap the new plugs before you put them in?

I'm not sure it would run at all if you did this wrong but you might want to make sure you got your wires back on the right plugs as per firing order.

Also, as you examine the order, check the condition of the
connections, boots and wires for cracks, splits, holes; even measure elec. continuity/resistance. G'luck. |
