Steering wheel size

I bought a steering wheel from a 1987 951 to use on my 1986 944, it is slightly bigger then my 944's stock wheel. It has the same P/N but it seems to be 1'' larger in diameter, esspecially between the horn pad and the bottom.

Kind of pisses me off but I'll get used to it.

Anyone know the deal of when the sizes changed.

I have several 944 wheels in my collection and I didn't know there was a size difference?,someone must know out there?,IMO the best wheel is the smaller Momo sportline ,fatter grip more legroom in an early 944 and more control over the cars heavy? powersteering.
They don't look out of place in the car but tend to block off gauge view a little.

There were two sizes for the four spoke wheel if I recall correctly. I have one of the small ones in my '84.

And here I was thinking all '87 951s had airbags (standard). Guess not. I recall there being a "sport wheel" option as well which was slightly smaller as Tervuren mentions.

I'm not sure, Maybe the PO had replaced the wheel with a non-airbag steering wheel. I bought it off a guy parting out a 951, a shame to waste a nice car. It wasnt too badly damaged.
