Hello! Looked through the threads I could find and it seems as though we have the same, yet unique-in-a-different-way issue... Just as a caveat, I'm acting as the translator/relay between you and my Russian-speaking husband, who's been messing around with my brother's car, trying to get the damn thing to start... so my apologies in the beginning for the retardness that I'm sure will crop up on my side
![]() Essentially, we have no spark. 1) The fuel's there, he's checked it both by unplugging part and having it started, the fuel flows into a jar and making sure the fuel pump's working, it seems to be, no issues there.. 2) Checked the DME relay based on clarks-garage's instructions.. all numbers =norm 3) Used a jumper to bypass the DME relay, just in case his diagnosis (it working) was incorrect, still no spark.. 4) Changed out distributor cap and rotor 5) Changed out spark plugs and wiring 6) Bought and switched out the DME (but one that was admittedly unverified, it had come from a car that'd had an engine problem, not a computer issue, but you never know I guess.. neither do the trick, not the original, not the "new") 7) Checked the ignition coil, works fine.. (caveat: he says "I checked the coil via a resistance test but there was no spark, meaning that power isn't getting to it, but I don't know where to go from there") 8) Sensors seem to be in order, as tach and other stuff jumps around like he says it should when trying to start the engine I think that's it, but there may be something forgotten in there.. Anything we're overlooking, or does it look to be the damn DME unit? (My bad, once again, if I use non-normal car terms or don't understand yours! ![]() Last edited by etomaria; 06-02-2011 at 09:10 PM.. Reason: grammar mistakes.. sorry, they irritate me! :) |

If the history of who worked on the car is suspect, try swapping the two connectors for the reference sensors. Sometimes they can be mixed up and this would cause the no-spark problem you describe. Another thing to check is make sure the gap for the reference sensors is correct.
If i remember right the ignition switch provides 12v to the coil with the key on. You should get 12v at the black wire to the coil with the key in the on position. If no voltage, the ignition switch or wiring between the two should be checked.
