WOW!!! Just missed an engine fire!!

Here I am at work (about -15 celcius), I figured I would warm up the car, and check the anti-freeze level (coolant for those of you who live south of the 50th parallel)......

I have the car running just topping of the coolant when I see smoke.......

I look at the fuel rail......and there is gas leaking from the 2 injectors closest the front of the engine!

I shut it off.... there is gas everywhere..... I can see where it has dried up from who knows how long!!

I see gas seeping out from the injector sides, almost like its coming backout from where the injector sits.

I had the injectors out in the summer, and I remember there being a rubber ring??? Is this replaceable? or do I need new injectors???

The fuel rail is on tight.....??? Weird???? So here I am waiting for a tow truck...... to tow her home.....

To think about it .....if it was not below -10 celcius for the last week....it probably would have caught on fire......thank God for cold winters.........

Any guesses at what would cause this????

on my 81 924 the seals are easy to replace just wet the injector with some gas and slide them on

You may need to replace the o-rings and the injector caps as they get old and crack. Funny that I drove my car for a year with a cracked fuel rail and never noticed it!!

Just a question on this one. Anyone know if you have full coverage on your car and have an engine fire.... does the insurance company cover it?

Normally when you get insurance you can get 3rd party liability/ collision/ and comprehensive

Engine fires are covered under comprehensive......
