This post reminds me of my early biker days. It was 1996, and I had just become the proud owner of a H D softail custom.
I used to get up at 5 am every morning just to ride it. In the first few mornings, I was out there waving at the other bikes so early in the morning. I soon realised that these early birds, were paper boys making their newspaper deliveries on little Honda mopeds, they were out there working, and not joy riding like me. Never got any wave or a flash.. Well, that was the end of that. coupe

Here is a list of my flashes :) Kind of a list, but I've been saving up since I'm new to the board.
I was driving home for the first time with my shiny new (well, 14 year old) 944. I was 17, and my mom was a few cars back. In the fast lane, a limo passes going pretty quick. (This is on I-20 in Atl if you were wondering) Anyway, the limo hits the brakes, and matches my speed about a car length ahead. Out of the sunroof pop two people, one of which procedes to remove her shirt. LOL My little brother is in the car with me (10 yrs old) and says "What the h##l are they doing?!" Mother calls cell phone laughing hysterically. Couple months later I'm driving down 400 (atlanta again) and see a new, shiny, black 911 Carerra. I speed up excessively to catch up to him, and we wave at each other as we approach a toll booth. I tried to get beside him on leaving, but he left ahead of me :( Found someone with a maroon 944 in Covington (where I live - middle of nowhere). Said he bought the car for his son, who didn't like it (wha??). I have seen a few boxsters, the women never wave back... Oh well. I did get pretty ticked at another 944 driver though (If you read this, Dangit!!). I am going up I-75 in Atlanta. Traffic is bumper to bumper, and was moving about 15-20 mph. All of a sudden a huge noise blasts from my window. I proceed to have a massive heartattack, and jump like a little girl. A guards red 944 (Just like mine) flies past my left side. I begin to drop 2 gears, but then think the impending doom of a ticket isn't worth it. This is another flash which really got me going... I am going to school in Macon - Mercer University. I am showing the handling off to a few friends (large load in car) on an onramp with signs showing 25mph. I am going 65. After getting on the highway, the car behind me catches up and gets on my butt, flashing lights. My heart stops. Pull off to the side, the SOB in the black lumina takes off, obviously laughing. With the extra 400lbs in the car, I am unable to catch him for the second or two that I tried. He had a good jump on me, and I didn't want to kill my friends (heh). Sorry :) - One more story from Macon. Was driving down the road with a friend of mine who despises riced out cars with a passion. We pull up to a red light next to a Civic Si with the essential 8" exhaust pipe upgrade. The two of us break into histerical laughter. The passenger in the car proceeds to cuss us out, and we laugh harder. When the light turns green, the passenger in the Si yells "Can you spell dual overhead cam??" We laugh harder. We meet up with them again in traffic, and they keep trying to get me to run against them. I try to resist temptation as best as I can, but I finally give in, pull up next to them at 20, and leave them. They try to follow me until I reach the next corner, which I took at about 40 (my passenger thought I was crazy). The Honda took a few more seconds to appear around the corner, and slid in to the next two lanes. We laugh even harder. Oh, almost forgot the most important one :) Was driving home. Gold saturn pulls up beside me on 75. 3 hot chicks from Florida. They all laugh for a minute (we are going about 80), then the passenger takes off her shirt. Interesting how these cars can attract such attention :) Hrm... I think this started out as a Porsche thing. I got sidetracked. Oh well. :) I did get to see a shiny new Boxster today :) Oh yeah! One more - I work in a small computer store, and the other day someone asks "Is that your little red Porsche out there" as he points to my 944. I wonder if I ticked him off with a traffic move or something, and slowly say yes. He then describes his 924 in current state of restoration, which was pretty cool. Sorry for rambling :)

There is a nice downhill run with a few big sweeping turns and a hard left at the bottom (if you miss the last turn you drop about two hundred feet into the Pacific ocean). At the stop light that begins this road it funnels from four lane to two so I commomly have to snake past some SUV so I am not stuck behind them on this little fun run.
So I do my usual - roll slow up on the red light - pull into the empty lane - as the light goes green I get a nice rolling second gear launch - this usualy brings about some horn honking, finger waving, head bobbing by the soccer moms and grannies that I just swooped on. Anyway as I go blasting down the hill what do I see in front of me but a silver P-car shape whipping around the corner. So I step it up a wee bit and manage to catch him just where I make a left at a stop sign off the coast road. He is in a shiny new silver 911 cab, as I pull alongside I think "nice car but no way he will notice my old pos" We were only side by side for a second. He looks over at me, gives me a big smile, we give each other a nod and pull away.

Just got back from a New Year's trip to Vegas then down to Tempe, AZ for the Fiesta Bowl. Go Bucks! I can't even describe the numerous car I saw. The drive down from Vegas was filled with turns that made me drool for my car. Hit Tortilla Flats in Arizona this morning morning in my rented Chrysler Sebring and saw 3 911's and 2 944's flying around the 15-25 mph turns. Can't wait to get in my car when this damn snow goes away and the roads dry up! I sure missed all this snow in the 75 degree weather.

New Years Flash. sort of.
New years eve. It was a 924 with the driver probably being around 40 years old or older. I was sitting in the back of my friends impala driving down to a club in Hollywood, I roll down my window and notice a 924 next to us. So I say to the driver "Nice 924". I think he heard me and he just smiled. Or maybe I just annoyed him as I continued to stare. I had a couple of
that night, that's why I wasn't driving. But a flash nonetheless.-Gus. |

Flashes and such...
This *is* fun to read...
Sunday AM, sitting at a light on St. Pauls Blvd here in downtown Norfolk, waiting for the light to change... I'm on my way to see my brother off at the airport, not paying too much attention to who pulls up next to me. Light turns green, and a silver Boxster squirts off the line to my right... completely got the drop on me. I was starting to reel him in when we got to the next light... I looked over with a big grin, and he was grinning just as much, gave me a thumbs up. I then tore off up the I-264 onramp, but the guy didn't give chase... pity, I was ready for him then! It was cool anyway, it's fun seeing other Porsche owners around here. In fact, I parked in a back alley up in Richmond near a club on New Years Eve, and found a lovely black 84 944 already there... never did see who owned it, though. For some reason, my red 944S tends to attract ricer attention around here- it is BONE STOCK, nothing different about it, but these guys just pull up in their little buzzy sh!+boxes with the chrome-plated Folger's can out back and get all offended when I commence laughing... _ Hey! this is a cool thread, too bad it stopped. How often do people see P-cars? I think we are just spoiled around here, but I see a whole bunch a day. On longer drives we try to see how many different kinds of porsches we can see. Just recently I saw a slant nosed beauty. It was one of the 93* series. WOW!

Location: Hwy 447 (Driving home (north) to Walker from Gonzales, via Port Vincent) Flasher: early model black 944 Flashee: early model cream colored 944 (me) Speed: 60-70 on twisties, stuck behind a pick up truck and waiting for an opening to pass. I didn't really see the car til he waved to me, so I have no idea what he looked like, but man, it felt good to be acknowledged like that. It did not even dawn on me that it was another 944, because there are soo many cars out there now that look quite similiar (for a reason, no doubt). My car does stand out and I've yet to see another of the same color, so Baton Rouge is mine, dudes! I've had about 3 offers in the past year I've owned it due to it being the rare color, but it's mine and I'm keeping it! Unless someone with lotsa bucks makes an un-refuseable offer!

Was driving up on 91 in CT and saw a black 911 sc. I got about within 10 yards of him when he noticed me gaining on him then he downshifted and booked it. I was going about 85 and he musta gotten it up to around 130 speeding away from me. All i wanted to do was get a good look at his car.
![]() Anyways a couple monthes ago i was at walmart and i walk out and i see a mid 90s red 911 turbo. I start checking it out when the owner comes out. I start the conversation out by saying "ill trade you mine for yours" he says "nice car ....but i dont think so" We talk a lil and he starts her up. Wow ...what a sweet sounding car. I start walking to my car and I hear his car go off in the distance. Maybe one day ill be able to afford one ...until then im sticking to 944s.

Yeah, not to mention that I grew up in East Windsor, CT, too!
I loved the backroads there, man, northeast/eastwards through towns like somers, ellington, etc as a kid was fun. Totally different terrain than down here in the 'flat swamplands'

I agree, CT has a lot of curvy back roads that are fun to drive. I can't wait until I get back there next week.

UConn Tim,
I'm at UConn... don't know if I've seen you. We should arrange a flash just to post it with both drivers. I don't think anyone has been able to actually post "that was me" in response to a flash post yet (if that made sense?).

That would be great next time I'm in the area. I graduated from Uconn a while ago, it is also my AOL name so I kept using it. I am in CT often though.

Time: ~7:00PM Location: Country road Car: Audi A4, followed by a Boxster Driver: Both 30-ish looking men Flash: I'm coming around a corner on one of my favorite winding roads and notice a black car coming up to me very fast in the opposite lane, flashing their lights. I realize its an Audi, and pull my headlight stalk to flash back. I did get somewhat of a chuckle out of this. The Audi was closely followed by a beautiful black Boxster. The Boxster did not flash, but went by really fast with the engine close to redline. Man, that sounded nice, I didn't realize just how loud a Boxster's engine can be when pushed hard. Mainly I see Boxsters just loafing around town with older, non-enthusiast looking people driving. I figured the Audi and Porsche drivers were together. Oh, and a couple of minutes later I remembered that both my foglight lenses were burnt out, so I guess the two drivers thought I snubbed them. I felt kinda bad about that. I shoulda just waved.
