OPRV questions

I'm having issues with my oil pressure on my 87 na, when i start the car oil pressure pegs out the gauge and never drops. I know its not the wiring ive tried swapping the wires and even traced the wires back to make sure i had the correct ones (i had to splice the original wires) everything seemed to be fine. Im now thinking that its due to the fact that i didnt use the OPRV alignment tool when reinstalling the oil cooler. So my question is would a binding OPRV valve cause the insanely high oil pressure i seem to be getting? What symptoms would i be seeing if this is the case?

Usually if your OPRV is binding, causing excessive oil pressure, it would blow the oil filter gasket out and puke oil all over the place. Another thing to consider is the oil sender itself. In most cases when the oil sender fails, it will fail in the pegged (max pressure) reading. Does the oil pressure reading peg just when you turn the ignition power on but not turn the engine over? That might give you an indication if its just a bad sender.

OK now im almost positive that my OPRV is binding seems like when its 3/4 of the way in i start to feel resistance.

The sender is almost new so i dont think that would be the case. I did notice a little bit of oil by the filter but nothing too bad. There is oil seeping out of the front of the oil pan gasket though ONLY when the car is running

Would having the oil level sender deleted have anything to do with the pressure reading being so high?

I don't know if the oil level sender needs to be there.

Typically VDO gauges peg the oil pressure at the maximum when they aren't grounded properly. This is actually a way to test your gauge to see if it is grounded correctly.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I would double check all of the ground wires and make sure things are wired up right.

Good luck!

Ive looked over the DME harness many times its not the wiring. Would running the engine while the OPRV valve was bound cause the Pressure sender to go bad in about a months time? And could the OPRV valve BLOCK/RESTRICT oil flow to the top end of the block if its bound? Looking at a oil flow diagram it seems like if that were the case i should be getting low oil pressure not high seeing as how the pressure sender comes AFTER the OPRV.
