The car has changed hands a few times I don't really feel the guy I got it from really knew it was a swap Maybe maybe not but the title is clean and the car runs great no warning lights of any type and no smoke noise or knocking. So it comes down to do I feel $3600 for the car with a dented fender and a S2 motor swap is something I wont to play with? The Interior is really clean and to make it a nice road car I will go into this car at about another 1500. So is it a $5000 968???? Its not the car I was told and that really sucks yes I can go get my money back but I could also part the car out for two times the money. I enjoy driving it like I said it performs well so maybe I just drive it until the wheels fall off. Its a lot more car than my 86 944. And I am seeing 968 motor show up for sale. Looking forward to your comments.

Also I have confirmed car dose have LSD. Option code 220

Well if you feel like you want to keep the car it's your choice, but remember the S2/968 16 valves beside the TB/BSB/WP ect ect has different need when it come to maintenance specially the head (tensioner/chain/upper& lower pads) which should be look at ASP & not always cheap to do unless you DIY, otherwise you migth end up with a damage head. No 5K$ is not expensive for a 968 but remember it's still a S2 motor not a 968 one & like mention you migth end up in the dark when there is issues specially electrical one.By looking at the swap frankly I will not trust the peoples who done it.Like said I agree that you should just drive it until it's done but without investing to much money in it,968 motor are rare but always available sometime at very decent price ,in fact a member which is down your way (Jonvo) has one for sale rigth now.GL:)

the S2 and 968 blocks are nearly identical, the 968 has piston squirters in the block though. heads will bolt on to eachother.

For LSD, wheels turn in OPP. direction when spun by hand.
I think someone stripped any stuff they could sell after wrecking it that would not be noticed easily by someone not too familiar w/968. You may have a mess on your hands, but if you have the patience to find and repair all the things wrong, you probably will have a decent 968 for less than you would spend to buy another. I do know it is frustrating. I bought my 2nd 968, this was a 6-speed, from a guy claiming it to be a 9 out of 10, after owning it for a while, checking things out, I found so much stuff wrong. I think the guy sent pics then after I sent the money, he let his buddies swap what they needed. When a pic is sent of the eng bay showing a nice looking air cleaner box, then the car shows up w/ a hacked up one, then you notice an aircleaner box for sale from the same guy, it raises a few questions.

For what you have in it, I echo "drive it and enjoy it". If it were mine, I'd definitely keep an eye out for a decent deal on a 968 engine though. Eventually swap the S2 engine out with the correct powerplant, and sell the S2 engine to someone who's looking to upgrade an N/A.

Thanks v2 my wrong,I had read a post about it quiet a while ago & couldn't not remember ,that why I said not 100% sure .Your rigth the only difference is that the 968 block has piston squirters like you said.I still think that swapping an S2 head on a 968 motor is not the rigth way to do it since your loosing all the advantage of the vario cam.BTW I'm just wondering how the six speed 968 tranny will react the an S2 motor any idea?http://forums.pelicanparts.com/suppo...s/beerchug.gif

Ernie, I think you were thinking of the S head -- it has the 2.5L coolant passages, according to what I've read.

To the OP, that looks like a lot of car for the money, swapped engine or no. S2 engines are good, and I wouldn't worry about it too much if you enjoy the car.

Hell, I may be interested in a 3.0L someday...;)

it'd probably be a nice combo, the S2 has alot of torque and you could really enjoy it with the extra gear. maybe OP will let me drive it tomorrow...:)

WRONG...with LSD, wheels turn in the same direction when spun by hand.

There is so much mis-information in this thread it gave me a headache just reading it. Some of you guys need to get a clue before posting random crap or else you will get someone in trouble one day. To the OP, do your research before you take what someone writes as the absolute truth.

Amen!

I wouldn't be surprised if the LSD was taken out. You need to go through this car from top to bottom and confirm what it has / doesn't have.

-Does it have a 6-speed?
-Do the rear wheels turn in the SAME direction (indicative of LSD)?
-confirm what DME (computer) you have
-Does the car still have a 968 torque tube (probably) (evident from the large 2-piece bellhousing)... if it does, it means you have a DMF so you can remove the S2 harmonic balancer and use a regular 944/968 pulley. I'll buy that balancer :)

Honestly, I wouldn't feel too bad about it even before considering the good price you paid. Most of the extra power the 968 has over the S2 is from the newer dual resonant intake manifold, which you luckily have anyway. IMHO it won't be worth it to source a complete 968 top end, and possibly a computer. Any other engine differences (like the cast rods and pistons) won't ever be noticeable.

I say remove the 968 vanity cover and clean up that S2 valve cover, it will look good. Right now it's just weird.

Sorry you got had but meh, enjoy that car.

968 GUY 07-15-2011 10:49 PM

I will def recheck the dir of the wheel spin, since I have a 951, 968 6 spd, and 968 Tip, all w/LSD. Would not want to have anything completely different than what I should have.
Bop, maybe the 993 forum will cure your headache, take 2.

flash968 07-16-2011 12:41 AM

what the wheels do depends on the model of differential - for example, i have a torque biasing diff in my car that can still spin the wheels opposite when done by hand

968 GUY 07-16-2011 08:00 AM

clutch type may spin both in same dir. Gear type may spin in opp., cannot really remember how the wheels spin on my cars when up in air, just know both tires will leave marks on road with all 3 cars.
So Heeltoe, I may be wrong, not sure, but def. would not lead you astray intentionally, nor would I gloat and point a finger at someone if I was correct.

flash968 07-16-2011 08:25 AM

yup - what the wheels do in the air all depends on the type of unit, as does what they do on the ground, including in a straight line, in a turn, and on decel - they all behave a little differently - each one has its own ups and downs

side note: i think all of the tips had a form of lsd

jsb944 07-16-2011 09:02 AM

question of what you do with the car and what you do with the seller are seperate in my eyes.

You have what is still a fairly nice 968 with a 3ltr motor....it can still be a blast and when you do find the 968 motor to swap back in you can likely sell the S2 motor for a grand or more depending upon it's condition.

I would (if it were me) go beat on the seller however.....you were sold faulty goods....squeeze a G note out of him to help pay for the swap !

moorepower 07-16-2011 02:36 PM

Hell, if you were close by, I'd give you $3600 to take that headache off your hands. ;)

I wouldn't feel too bad about it. I know the car was misrepresented, but it looks like you still got a good deal. I guess it's really a judgment call whether to go after the seller or not.

+1 Charlie ,start picking my old brain & I do remember someone coming either here or RL and asking if he could fit a 944S head to a 3.0 lrt block. And then they were a couple replies mentioning that the water passages weren't the same. But still my bad I should have done more reseach

968 GUY 07-17-2011 06:46 PM

I believe I stated that the Tip was equipped w/limited slip in post 32.

flash968 07-18-2011 02:39 AM

yes - i was merely indicating that i think this is universal on tips, and not like the manuals where you might or might not have it
