Porsche Crest Caliper hardware info

So I had to slice out my old pins and the expansion spring thingys went to hell upon the Rust Train, one way trip!

So I just ripped everything out and cleaned up the calipers for painting and rebuilding. But I wanted to know, are those expansion springs 'really' needed? or can I drive just fine without them?
For those curious of my reactive behaviour to this situation is I am very low on 'joy spening' at the moment till I get moved to Florida and settled; but I would like to know that I could at least drive (even if I am limping the engine) the thing still and be able to STOP! :P

I wouldn't run without new hardware kits. If they aren't available here, EBS has 'em.

Do you have a link to EBS? Google keeps routing me to EBC which only sell pads.
I have new pins and whatnot but those expanding springs are pricey and I really know I shouldn't be getting heavy priced things at the moment.

I was just curious if they are there just to push the pads back when my foot is off the brake so they aren't rubbing (if thats the case then I will get them) or if they are there simply as a noise depression device

Good grief, thought it would have at least been cheaper for the 924! this makes 944online look cheap lol The part must be super rare or something.

I will try George then.

You go through labor and time to rebuild your brakes and $35/ wheel is expensive? My time and the inconvience to add these later is worth than $35/wheel. Just sayin'

I have everything else already, just not the expanding springs and not needing to buy an overpriced kit just to get the springs from it. It only took me maybe 3-4hrs total to grind down the calipers, clean, rebuild, and prep for painting. Painting took an additional day adding all the coats and whatnot.

This is for my benifit anyway so I am not concerned about labor/cost ratios. My concern is that I can get back on the road knowing I have breaks for the time being because I am in a financial crunch at the moment.

i'm pretty sure they just stop squealing. If you have pins and one of the retaining springs or split pins to stop them backing out, the pads aren't going anywhere.

It's the movement of the rotor that moves the pads back so the brakes don't drag.

all the springs do is stop the clunking noise . it will sound the worse when you change direction . like when the car rolls backwards then you go forwards and step on the brakes . it will over time destroy the backing plates on the pads and the caliper were the pads rest . should you replace them yes but you can drive the car for a very short time with out them .
