Stock, OEM or good quality aftermarket should be fine.

+1 unless your going to track it you'll be all set with about anything even with "spirited" street driving. I'd personally stick with the quiet. low dust. stock pad.

I used PBR Ult Ceramic for a while. Quite dusty, but will make your brakes feel like a race car.

i've used a LOT of different pads over the years, trying everything from ceramic to semi-metallic, but i've really come to like the Porterfield R4-S for street cars. i use them on everything now. much less dust, and what dust is there is much easier to clean. no "cold stop" issues some other pads have, and they seem to last quite well. most importantly, i don't see the fade i get with OEM pads.

My experience with Metal Master pads is poor. Dirty and early rotor warpage. I run Hawk blue now. Expensive and squeek, but they work.

Jurid pads work pretty well and as an added bonus you can be sure they were made back in the day when 944's were hot stuff because the box says "Allied Signal" on them.

i ran metal masters (starting way back when they were repco) on the mgbs for years and swore by them. then i put them on my e30 325 and discovered the cold stop problems. i also discovered the rotor wear issues. nasty. i've seen the same issues on the 968.
since then i have had the chance to match them up against other pads on the 968. i've looked carefully at all of the concerns, and so far i have not found a street pad better than the Porterfield R4-S. there are definitely pads out there that cost less. there are pads that make a bit less dust, but they trade it off against braking. there are pads that last longer, but again trade off against braking and fade. pick your priority. cost, longevity, dust, or the ability to stop the car? |
