Welcome to my world. Mt stud was broke and i cannot get the 1-4 back on. just got the 2-3 off to try another 1-4 (bigger with bellows) and cannot get it past the block. one thing after another. Going to try to raise the engine next. my 2-3 was cracked too. If you can avoid touching the 1-4 do it!!!!

ahhh man, that sucks. i just took the rest of the exhaust off first to check it while im at it, and they were a little tricky to get past the block, but not too bad. good luck man!

Ceramic coating wouldn't have done squat to prevent that.

Are you (or do you know) a good welder?

That's completely fixable.

My Exhaust leak is also quite obvious.
currently waiting for parts.

The good news is, I've got one less stud to remove. The bad news is I have no idea where that stud's gone.

Awesome, thanks for the offer.

I've got one stud on it's way from Pelly parts all the way to me here in Australia as part of a larger part order.

Cheers anyway.

Fara, you sound just like me before I started getting into it. More than likely the stud is broken if not missing. This is exactly how my continuing 2 weeks repairs started. If you were local I would let you bottow my right handed drill to get it out if you find that (diag mirrors are cheap or use your cell phone video if you have it to check what is in there). Read my thread below and turboducks comments especially. The left handed bit worked great. I am going tommorrow to my friends to life the engine and try to get the new 1-4 in.
Exhasut Manifold bolt missing!
Good luck my friend! (and wish me as well)

I'm sure I'll find out the bad news tomorrow morning when I start stripping everything out...

Expect photos and swearing.
Going to get a case of cider on the way home.

Fara good luck, hopefully yours will turn out better. I just got back from friends. 1:00 to midnight straigh on Friday, 10-6 today. finally got all the header back in, was a major pain in the ass. The last stud on each set is the hardest.
Started the car up and still felt a leak on #4 Just left after that and will continue tommorrow..

Fara, good luck. The top of that gasket is toast.

Maybe a little more than squat if it was able to prevent some corrosion.

Well the good news is, I found the gasket!
The bad news is, it appears to be intact, which leads me to believe the stud has snapped off.
Managed to get the nuts off the manifold studs ok, but having a hard time getting the nuts off the manifold --> Exhaust flanges.

I'm currently soaking those nuts in WD-40 daily to help un-stick them.
