I recently purchased, for my 83, a mint pair of dual electric seats and the rear seat out of a 1989 951 for $700. UPS will be delivering them on Monday the 22nd. What I need from you guys is the proper way to install these. I will be replacing the carpet with all new carpet from either Original Fit Interiors or Fryer's Upholstery. What is involved with wiring these seats to a non-electric equipped 944? Also, what do you guys recommend when it comes to carpet? Molded or tailored? Molded seems like it would be easier to install. Original Fit Interiors sells the tailored carpet kit and Fryer's sells the molded carpet kit and both are about the same in price. Any and all suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks for your time!

Took mine out years ago but cannot remember what the wiring was like. But I'll take a stab at it anyway. The seat will come with some sort of pigtail ending in a male or female plug. If the plug has only two prongs, one is ground, the other is +12V. The switches on the side of the seat will reverse polarity to change direction of the DC motors. Switches will also send juice to correct motor depending on how you push the switch. My guess is that there is only one connection (plug) with two prongs - one hot, the other ground. But this is only a guess.
Your car might already have the wiring in place even though it has manual seats. If it does, you might just be able to plug it in. My '86 has wires under the dash that end with just a male/female empty plug. The plugs were for some option that was not selected when the buyer purchased the car. My electric driver's seat weighs 49 pounds. Last edited by Lawrence Coppari; 04-21-2002 at 10:37 AM.. |
