Tach problem

So, I installed a new cluster in my 86 951 and everything works but it seems the tachometer won't rise above 1200rpm. It works perfect under 1200.

Any ideas?

The Tach' would be the 3rd. large plug on the right (If viewing from the face plate and reaching around back). Check to make sure that the plug is free of corrosion, dust, dirt. and make sure it is plugged in fully. I have seen others that were plugged in, but not correctly/fully and the Tach' gets it every time.

Would it be wise to clean the plugs and the contacts with electrical cleaner?

I've heard that the blue mylar film on the back of the instrument cluster can be problematic. Also, a faulty voltage regulator outputting approx. 18V will usually take out the tachometer first, followed by the speedometer.

As Artie Johnson (Laugh In) would say, "Verrry Interesting".

Some people try to turn back their "odometers." Not me. I want people to know 'why' I look this way. I've traveled a long way and some of the roads weren't paved.
