can 944's run on a test pipe???

I was just wondering if a 1986 944NA can run on a test pipe. I am looking to gain a better sound out of my 944. Is there enough back pressure without a cat. What muffler would you suggest for a nice deep racing sound? What is the H.P. 86 944 put out?

Its LOUD without the cat. I noticed no slack in power when my cat was off.

The noise just gets loader but the sound stays the same with the test pipe. To change the sound you will need to change back box to something that makes the sound you like. Removing the CAT should give you better top end power. But it will work better in conjunction with a free flow air filter. You also need to increase the fueling to benefit from the additional air flow. Without this you will be running lean and will not be giving you more power.

All you need is a resonator installed where the test pipe would go. On my 83 I had the Bursch muffler installed minus the test pipe. In its place is, of course, the resonator. It's that simple.

By back box I mean the rear exhaust system which on a 944 is the exhaust pipes silencers after the CAT. This I think is also known in US as the muffler. The exhaust sound is dependent on how muffler is designed. A straight through muffler design will give you the deep sound you want.

I just installed a bursch test pipe along with a new clutch and like the new sound. As far as mixture my car didn't run any leaner w/o cat. And for power it seems as if there is a slight top end power gain.

My 83 was way too loud with the test pipe. It also sounded too ricey for me. The resonator works like a charm and definitely lowered the decibels. There was no way on God's green earth I was going to drive my car with just the test pipe.

I AM STILL RUNNING THE OEM MUFFLER WHICH PROBABLY HELPS KEEP MOST OF THE NOISE DOWN. DOESNT SOUND RICEY AT ALL, JUST A LITTLE BIT LOUDER. I CAN'T EVEN TELL A DIFFERENCE WITH THE WINDOWS ROLLED UP.

I am running Bursch headers and a Bursch muffler. My stock muffler had seen its last day and needed to be replaced.

I'm trying to get a Bursch Test pipe for my 944 it has stock everything. i just got it about a year ago and never had any money to get anything put on it. I have a nice job so this summer i'm getting it repainted and hopefully getting a fuel charger and the test pipe.. is this a good idea?

the Bursch test pipe has a built in resonator.

I didn't see no "built in" resonator in my Bursch test pipe. It was a hollow pipe. What kind of resonator does a hollow pipe make? My resonator is a glass pack.
