part time no start
I have a 1984 944 that has a intermittent no start problem. I was reading a Clark's garage tech sheet and it listed the alarm system as the second most common no start problem right after the DME relay. Does anyone know how to disable the alarm on my car or have experience with it helping a part time no start problem? I have installed two new sensors, a new relay and a different DME I got from a junk yard. Also does anyone have experience with the DME doctor rebuilder place in FL? I am thinking of sending my old DME in but don't want to waste the 300 or so dollars if that is not the problem.....AFM has been tested and is good.

Can you hear your fuel pump turn on when your turning the motor over? my old 944 would start part time because the fuel filter was clogged and the fuel pump was pretty much dead.
Also check the black plastic cover on your MAF to see if it is sealed all the way around. I just had the same problom and it ended up being the cover on the MAF was loose. when the car sat for a bit the cover would settle back down into place, once i started it back up drove it for a while the vibrations from the motor and road loosen it back up enough to let air in, They are very easy to knock off. |

Cheap and cheerful: change the ignition switch. These little SOBs cause guys to go chasing expensive problems...

Sorry i didnt mention with the MAF if the cover is loose just take some sealant and seal it back closed.

Were is the MAF you talked about? The fuel filter is new and the pump checks out ok. The problem happens about one in thirty starts and then most of the time it will start if you wait 10 minutes. Is bypassing the alarm a good idea?

The MAF if the little box conected to the airbox it has 1 plug on the back side of it.

My old '83 944 had an odd intermittant electrical problem with one of the crank reference sensors. Look to see if you have a bouncing needle on the tach.
