Cold Weather Trans Flud (for DD use)

This may have been addressed before but ill ask it again as its some what specific.

What is the best cold weather transmission fluid. My 944 is my DD and its getting cold out here in PA. I got in the car this morning (it was around freezing last night) and the gears were very difficult to engage. I have experienced this before with both my 911 and 924S in the winter. The car sits out side most of the time so it cant be kept warm at night in a garage. This question goes out to all the people living up north who DD there 944's or 911's and have had similar issues. Once warmed up the car shifts fine but it takes about 10 minutes of driving to get it warm. I will be changing the fluid around thanksgiving so I will be researching until then.

Not sure, I have only had this car since last march and have not swapped the trans fluid yet I could contact the PO and try to find out.

Dave since your car is park outside with no shelter maybe you should try (Red Line MTL 70W80 GL4) which BMW recommend has (winter trans oil) for their cars it should eliminates notchy shifting when cold.Just an idea.

So it's inconvenient for 10 mins, then no problems? I would just go with the Redline MT-90, and go easy on it for 10 min. No need to switch back and fourth on trans oil. I use MT-90 year round here in Colorado btw.

My plan was not to switch every season. The car needs trans fluid anyway and the cold weather thing just came up so I figured I would kill 2 birds with one stone.

The Redline seems to be the way to go and is the way I'm leaning. as of now

MT-90, I had cold shifting issues too at first with my '83. It was near freezing in Oakland and I was struggling to get into second on the way to work early-morning. I replaced with MT-90 transmission fluid and shifting was very noticeably smoother,easier, etc.

Good choice,had Castrol Synthec 75W90 in my 968 for a while & when I switch to Red Line I could feel the difference shifting is a lot smoother even in cold weather.Just make sure you get GL4 for your 944.I went with Red line 75W90 NS GL 5 since this what my owner manual specify for my car,I got an LSD.Had it in the car since last June & like mention shifting is great.
