Volt gauge died again :(

A couple months after cleaning gauge connections and the ground under the dash... The newly fixed volt gauge randomly stopped working again last night when I started my car. I'm hoping it's just another electrical gremlin... I was going to try and clean the bottom grounds again super hardcore, and just replace both bolts and washers instead of cleaning. Does the metal material matter? Stainless steel?

Try to see if you can get "copper" hardware. That seems to conduct electricity best - after Gold and Silver.

Did you check the voltage at the battery with a multimeter?

No but it was tested at NAPA and the guy said it was perfect. I have no other electrical issues or starting problems etc

There is a diode, or something idk, on the back of the PCB for the cluster. It might be the only thing that is even back there I think the rest of the circuit was just leads. Anyway that was the reason my gauge didn't work since when I played with it the gauge would work until it moved off the connector again. I never fixed it, idk. I honestly don't even know if it was something added by the p/o or stock or what.

The volt gauge seems to share its ground and supply with the oil gauge and oil pressure light. If they are still working, then it probably isn't the grounds external to the cluster, or the cluster plug-in connectors. See diagram:

That kinda leaves the diamond shaped connectors on the back of the volt gauge, or a faulty gauge?

The diodes in that area are all used for the central STOP light signalling, they are not part of the volt gauge circuit.

Hmm. Maybe the connectors have shaken loose and I don't tighten enough...
