Unknown wire harness
![]() I have a two prong female wire harness that is grouped with other harnesses and wires by the throttle body that I don't know what connects to. I see no other harnesses that it would plug into. Can anybody tell me what it is please? |

Under the intake manifold there
is a DME temperature sensor

Isn't the DME temperature sensor connection blue? I have a blue wire harness plugged into the head, but there's still the white harness. Also, just behind the sensor is a smaller wire terminal, and I have one plugged in but there are two of those as well. It would seem that I have two sets of the same wires, but they all come out of the wire bundle coming through the firewall.

It could be for the knock sensor too if your car has one

Most NA's do not have knock sensors, and the included KLR computer that works with the knock sensor - most of all that is for Turbos.
There on the block below the rubber J-boot are two temperature sensors - One temp sensor is for the gauge in the dash pod (How well does your dash gauge work). The other temp sensor is for the DME and tells the DME of the working temperature of the motor. If that second temp sensor is not plugged in the DME is thinking that the motor is still cold and you will be running rich all the time. Under normal operation when the motor reaches normal operating temp the DME receives a signal from the sensor so the computer can lean out the fuel mix to normal smooth running. Could it be that one of those sensors are not plugged in ?

Yes that is the DME Temp Sensor circled in blue - and right next to it is the Temperature sending unit for the dash gauge (That one is also in the picture and shown just below the throttle body).
Just thinking that the loose wire/plug on wgruner's car goes to one of those sensors -

Ok, thanks. I have the DME temperature sensor and the temperature sending unit plugged in, so it might be the idle stabilizer. I thought I had that connected too but I'll double check. So what is the wire connection just behind the DME sensor? I have one wire plugged in there but there are two wires to connect, maybe if I know what the one is plugged into then I can figure out the other.

Ok, I just checked and the idle stabilizer is plugged in. I see nothing that it could plug into unless I'm missing a component.

Did you ever find anything to plug this into? I have the same connector spare on my 1987 944s and can't find anywhere to plug it into
