How to determine if hallf shafts are aligned correctly
If I want to verify if the belt and sprocket on the half shafts are installed correctly what is the easiest method of checking and what typically needs to removed on the engine to see the marks? And if I have to pay to get this done how many hours are typically involved?

I'm pretty sure you mean "balance" shafts vs half shafts which are usually axles coming off the transaxle. There's a good explaination on Clarks Garage and in the Haynes manual showing what the orientation should look like when properly set up.

Easy but requires some disassembly. Outer timing cover off, balance shaft sprocket covers off (which means removing the sprocket bolts). Verify two things: the key way on each faces up at TDC and the notches in the sprockets align with the timing marks on the inner timing cover. It really is virtually foolproof.
Isn't sprocket a ridiculous word? Try 'gear', at least that sounds cool... HTH |
