I think you have it all covered..
You will need a flywheel lock, Pelican has it.
And while the manual does not call for anything on the WP gasket, I would smear some Hylomar on it. I didn't the fist time, and it leaked. Did not risk it the second time.
If you shear off the water pump studs when trying to remove them, get some M6 timeserts.
One more piece of tribal knowlege......... don't drain the rad by removing the drain plug unless you have a new one handy. And there are two types of plugs blue (coarse thread) or black (fine thread).

Great thanks for the tips! I've got the blue rad drain plug, but will drain elsewhere to keep from making a mess. Hopefully I won't need the timesert, but I'll keep that in mind.

I need to be brief-its Halloween.

You do not use the thermostat shim--Thermostat spacer - 900-234-160-00....
unless you get a WP from Zims that has a 7mm gap from the WP thermostat shelf to the "C"clip.
If you do have the 7mm gap, then you use the thick 4mm thermostat seal that goes around the thermostat and the thermostat shim spacer.

If the Zims WP comes with the 4.5 mm gap you do not use the shim, only the 2.5mm thermostat seal.

Another view

You can either order all the parts and have spares or cross your fingers that the pump you get will be the one with 4.5mm gap which is usually the case.

Tomorrow...

Gotcha. I'll order the thermostat spacer just in case. Would hate to get to that point and need one...

I'm also doing the oil cooler seal kit. Should I do this prior to the timing/wp/foes, run the car to make sure I have oil pressure, then do the front end work? Might make it easier to diagnose issues later on, but would require draining the coolant twice.

Really appreciate everyone's help. I'm sure I'll have more questions as I get into the project.

In an earlier post I asked if you had the original 3 piece OPRV or the upgraded 1 piece?

If you are fortunate to have the upgraded 1 piece OPRV you will need new "O" ring seals.

You need a spare camshaft bolt as they frequently need to be drilled out.

Pelican has them.

Do the oil cooler seals while the front is torn down - more room. As mentioned, don't reuse the cam bolt, get a new one. It's a stretch bolt and has to be replaced.

Don't pull the front BS seals. Knock 'em out from behind after you take the noses off. That way you won't scratch up the seal seats.

Be careful with the crankshaft seal, there are 2 different sizes. My copy of the PET calls out the wrong one for my early 85.

The one in the Pelican Reseal Kits section (999-113-268-40-M17) is for 83-84 ONLY it is larger diameter (57 mm?). This one is called out in my PET.

The one I needed was in the Oil Circulation section (999-113-331-40-M104) it has a smaller diameter (52 mm). This one actually fits in my car.

My engine is untouched so I am not sure when the different oil pump housings were phased in.

Also this tool made pulling the crank seal a non-issue:

Lisle 58430 Shaft Type Seal Puller : Amazon.com : Automotive

Good luck! I just went through all of this so feel free to ask any questions and I will tell you how I stumbled through it!

I'm confused...sorry. But after reading the rennlist thread and clarks, I'm unsure what my 86 needs. If the change in the oil pump occurred in 84 then I'd need the 101mm? Paragon Products has 944 102 216 01 in stock. I'll call tomorrow and see if they can measure it for me.

I called Pelican and talked to 2 different people. I wasn't satisfied that the reseal kit (either of them) would work for my 86. So I shopped around and located one that contains the following:

999.701.602.40 x1 Cam O-ring
999.113.349.40 x1 Cam Shaft Seal
944.105.321.00 x3 Mylar Seal
999.113.282.40 x2 Upper Balance Seal
999.113.281.40 x2 Lower Balance Seal
999.701.652.40 x2 Balance Shaft O-Ring
999.113.331.40 x1 Crank Seal '84-
999.113.268.40 x1 Crank Seal '-84
999.707.283.40 x1 Crank O-Ring
928.105.184.00 x1 Cam Housing O-Ring
999.510.022.08 x1 Cam Bolt
928.105.139.02 x3 Seal Race
N.012.708.2 x2 Balance Shaft Woodruff Key
900.082.085.02 x1 Crank Bolt
944.107.161.01 x1 Oil Pump Drive Gear/Sleeve
900.117.036.00 x1 Crank Woodruff Key

This one contains both part #s for the seal you mentioned. I'll use the appropriate one.
