installing hoses on fuel tank and filler

I posted this before but perhaps the title was dull.

Sec. 20-6 of the late (I presume) shop manual cites Capella W32 or Omnis 32 assembly oils, or Contifix tire mounting paste for coating of inner sealing hoses for insertion into connecting hose of fuel filler neck.

Any recommendations for substitutes for these oils/paste? I have not noticed any while browsing the FLAPS...

Even better would be an explanation of their general chemical properties, i.e. are they like motor oil, or WD-40,...

What prompted you to replace these lines? Were they cracked and a safety hazard? Just curious if I should be looking for a similar problem. I have heard of fuel line/return line replacements but not the fuel filler lines. I'd hate to have one of my cars go up in flames.

John_AZ good call, thanks. I'll see what I should have Googled.... however the rennlist link has no discussion. This one either:

What is OMNIS 32? - Rennlist Discussion Forums

djnolan - I really think it is ok. The observable problems are yes that return line, maybe some line on the left side. I am interested in new parts for as many things as possible. It can lead to trouble, like here possibly.

But the hose that goes way up the filler will need help - it was misery to work it off, probably should have been cut - the filler is apparently aluminum, and thin.

... Ok after some poking it appears that some type of silicone lube like Sil-glyde or a Dow-Corning product is what to look at... silglyde is in NAPA, not sure if this is what to use in a fuel system.

When installing new rubber fuel lines I emailed Goodyear (Veyance now) for lubricant to use on tight fittings and they emailed me back to use isopropyl alcohol. It does make the rubber hose very slippery. I thought about silicone too but didn't want the hose to STAY slippery forever, the alcohol evaporates very fast.

This is the best lubricant I have used in rubber components and its also great from pulling wires through a loom. Very slippery but evaporates quickly: Hellermann Tyton - HELLERINE - LUBRICANT, GRADE M, 284ML

88Silver924S, 9FF these are very helpful ideas - I'll hopefully post back soon about how it works (probably will test isopropyl first).

today I noticed - at a different FLAPS from usual - Permatex 85409, Ultra Rubber Gasket Sealant and Dressing, gray tube. claims outstanding oil and fluid resistance.

the back has ingredients like talcum, some other things, but one big warning : CONTAINS ISOPROPYL ALCOHOL

I don't know about the other stuff going around fuel lines/systems - but at least it seems clear that isopropyl alcohol will aid fitting rubber fuel hoses.
