Question Coolant Reservoir Overflow - Strange !!

Hi,

Following up a post I made a while back....

When I take my 944S2 Cab 89 for a "blast" and then stop I am getting some water coming from the coolant reservoir overflow.. not much just enough to make a water mark on tar seal.. It does not carry on after I stop and typically only seems to happen when I drive home in the evening.. have leaped out of the car at traffic lights etc.....

Thought the problem was the radiator cap so changed this as the old one had a merc logo on it !!! New one is Porsche Original and part no fits the car and reservoir part to...

No Oily brown froth in the reservoir

Also have had the car pressure test at the local porsche deal for a blown head gasket plus each cylinder pressure tested.. All came up ok..

Engine oil is clear.. not using any oil ( Its mobil 1 ) in the last couple of months..

No water leaks or Oil leaks at all..

Any ideas ?

Only thing I can think of is its air getting in from a loose hose or cut in a hose.. or perhaps the reservoir seal where the cap connects is not good..

It a pain, as I have to top up the coolant every week..

Thanks in advance for any advice..

Simon

Well you seem to have covered almost everything........

This was similar to my experience a year or so back..........

I was topping my coolant up "Weekly".

I had tested for the blown gasket but no signs..........

Then I finally got around to doing my head gasket job (just because I am neurotic). The gasket was torn/deteriorated around one of the water holes enough to allow a small amount of coolant too pool under the intake manifold......as the car warmed up, the coolant evaporated of the block, so I could never find a leak or puddle anywhere.

You definitely have a leak somewhere......

also check the heater control valve up against the firewall, these are notorious for leaking/failing over time.

Good luck

You need to get it pressure tested to find the leak.

Hi,

Did you get a smell of coolant as it heated up on the intake manifold and evaporated....

I have not noticed any smells.. but its a possbility..

Will check the heater / firewall connection as the engine has been out recently too...

The car has done 91,000Km's ( NOT MILES ) but I get the feeling that age and coolant protection levels seem to have more to do with this than age...

Thanks,

Simon
