Alarm system question

I just got a letter from my insurance company (State Farm) that says that I may be eligible for furhter discounts on my insurance for two reasons:

1. Engraved Sekurit windows, and;

2. Alarm system.

I see my windows have SEKURIT, which is what I'm sure they are referring to...but what about the alarm system?

I've not seen anyone mention it, but that keyhole next to the drivers door; where can I get a key made for it? And is that for the alarm system? If so, how does it work?

As I mentioned...I got my car from my mechanic and didn't have the wheellock key nor the key that goes to the keyhole on the body...

Can anyone shed some light on this for me? I would love to get a discount from State Farm, though being 44 with no wrecks/tickets, it is still pretty cheap.

The key behind the door is for the alarm system. It operates on a different key from the door - once activated, the car will not start, and any appempt to open the doors, hood or hatch will result in the alarm sounding.

Porsche down not have a record of the key that came with your car. They can sell you a new key set with switch for about $100 or so. If you have one key, a Saab key blank will work for the alarm key.

All I have is one key; ignition, doors, and hatch. Can a locksmith fit a key for that switch?

I would imagine you could - no idea what they would charge though

attached is a pic of the elusive key.

A Porsche trained tech I knew back in Roachester NY had this advice 4 yrs ago when I bought my '44: "An alarm system in a car that old? Don't try to activate it. You could wind up with a car you can't start. Those systems have a way of malfunctioning over time." He told me about two that were towed in and required a bit of electronic work to overcome the problem. Besides...You HAVE the alarm system...Isn't that what the insurance company wants to know?

Do what I did...I built and installed flashing LEDs that operate off a hidden toggle switch. What a potential 'jacker don't know won't hurt you....

Cheers!

Actually, where I live and work, I'm not worried about theft. I'm more concerned about saving on insurance (who isn't?). I told the agent that the 944 had an alarm and vin etched windows, but that I didn't have the key for it yet, so he says once I get the key, I'll get the discount.

Good point about an old alarm. Maybe I will not activate it...not til I visit my buddy (Porsche/Audi/VW mechanic) in Memphis' house to see if it does work.
