Turn Signal help
I recently purchased an '87 924S and among many issues are the turn signals.
Right now with the ignition off, the front fog light turns on and the rear parking light turns on. It does not flash. It's the same thing on the driver's and passenger's side. With the ignition on, the turn signal light on the dash illuminates, but does not flash and nothing happens with any lights on the outside. The lights will flash with the hazards on though. Am I right in thinking that since the turn signals flash with the hazard switch, it's not a problem with the flasher relay? The PO says the turns signals worked until he had an alarm system installed. I've pulled the fuse on the alarm system and disconnecting all the leads to the alarm box, but still have the above symptoms. Anyhow, just checking to see if by chance anyone has had this issue before or if I'm dealing with a nice muckup by a Best Buy 'technician'. Am I right in assuming nothing should illuminate with the ignition off and turn signal stock engaged L or R? |

Probably a Best Buy screwup. Undo his work and your car will be diagnosable.

Thanks for the reply. I already removed some wires that were soldered into the headlamp switch, to no avail. Looks like it's time to dig further into the dash...

IIRC, if you leave the turn signal in a "turn" position with the ignition off, your turn signal will be on fully (no flashing). When you turn the signal arm to "off" the lights go out. Some cars may cause the Gong to sound.

Ignition off, stalk turned left or right will illuminate that side of your car. So that is correct. Also, your hood light won't work unless the running lights are on.
Lights flashing with the hazards are correct. Sounds like you just need a new flasher relay. That is separate from the hazards relay, another safety feature like the parking side markers. |

hi I have fully built a few of these cars and have had to completely overhaul the indicators and hazards. The previous posted is right. Stalk down, ignition off turns on the front and back light on the side the indicator stalk points towards.

"That's not a bug, it's a feature"
The bug, oops, I mean "feature", of the turn signal lights being on solid with the ignition off has annoyed me since I discovered it by accident decades ago. Luckily it didn't drain my battery; I drove in and parked during the day and shut the engine off with the wheels turned keeping the turn signal from self-canceling. I noticed it after dark so the lights must have been burning for hours.
Is there a way to disable this "feature" so one doesn't inadvertently end up with a dead battery because of turning the car off with the turn signal on?
