The pins in my hatch are misaligned, so when I try to open it, I have to turn the key and then push the hatch forward and side-to-side until it finds its "sweet spot" and opens. I don't know if this is a common problem, but it might be worth a try. The bushings where the hatch pins seat commonly wear and could be binding. Good luck and let us know what it is when you figure it out!

when you turn the key, which WAY do you turn it. And then, do you push the entire knob in as well for the 'pop'?
thanks again |

When you get the rear hatch open, check the hatch pin receiver rubber pin seats. if they look rotted and worn-replace.
I bought a set from Only944 and they work great. Hatch Pin Seats - Only944.com Awesome new Porsche 944 parts The hatch pin receivers can be adjusted by loosening the 2 nuts and turning slightly. Crawl into the rear and loosen with a 10mm wrench while you gently push up with your shoulder and the hatch should open while you grab the linkage to open the receiver "claws" J_AZ

Also you might check at this time whether the automatic hatch release works. It is the button down in front of the hood release in the drivers side footwell.
