Anyone else a CART fan?

I was just curious with a lot of coming from different places and backgrounds are any of you CART fans? Here in Indy everyone is pretty anti-cart since the cart-irl split. I know this is off the 944/24/68 subject so ignore it if you like. Porsche did have a car in cart though from 88-91.

I enjoy CART very much, but I haven't had a chance to follow this season that closely, mainly I've just been too busy. But I'll still take CART over IRL anyday.

For some reason I totally lost interest in CART about 3 or 4 years ago. I feel that CART is loaded with talented drivers but they don't have the appeal that other racing series has. I love to watch IMSA, NASCAR, F1 (to see if Rubens is going to let Schumacher "pass" him on the last lap), and an occasional IRL and NHRA race, but CART doesn't click for me.

Im sorta a fan by association. My good friend's dad was the VP for Toyota Racing (until last year.... ). Thus, we got great passes to all CART events (since toyota is pretty much one of the few left in CART) in the LA area (Long Beach Grand Prix and the race at California Speedway, Fontana). Anyways, its good stuff in that they race on ALL sorts of tracks, ovals, road courses, etc. However, the management is unbelievably crappy the past few years. Hopefully, CART will stay alive, even though many drivers are leaving for IRL or F1...

We don't get anything but NASCAR on TV here . My favorites would be LeMans & Rally style racing though.

I like F1, CART, ALMS, and all forms of road racing. I don't care for IRL or NASCAR. Don't like oval racing. The fact that there are few American drivers for CART doesn't bother me. But I keep up with F1 and ALMS more closely than CART.

I also like the little sedan racing that is done on dirt/paved roads in different countries - the one with the scared ****less navigator in addition to the driver. I guess it is Rally Racing.

I'd have to agree with Lawrence about oval racing, it has no appeal for me. For that reason I feel CART is much better series than the IRL. CART does seem to have some issues though.

To the list I would add the World Rally Championship and some of the lesser open wheel series in Europe; F3000, F3 etc.

I also think that the various trouring car championships from Europe and Down under are quite good as well.

If I had to pick two to watch and keep track of it would be an easy choise though, Formula 1 and the WRC, hands down.

I sorta lost interest in CART altogether about 5 years ago for some reason. I was really into it during the early nineties - the days of Nigel Mansell, Emmo Fittipaldi, and the Penske team. Boy, that '93 season was exciting!!!

But since the IRL/Cart thing, it just lost momentum some how. Movies like "Driven" surely doesn't help the cheese factor CART portrays as well.

But I'm an F1 fanatic!! I take the 944 to Montreal every June from Pittsburgh. Its about an 11-hour drive and I'm already getting psyched!

That reminds me...the other day I actually saw an old (beat up) civic with a coffee can on the exhaust. And no, I'm not talking about that famous picture (or the several of them), I actually saw this in person...it was hillarious. Had some 35ish big guy driving it.
