Video: Converting the late 944 strut to Bilstein shocks

Hi,

The video gives you a step by step tutorial how to convert a late Porsche 944 strut with the pressed Fichtel & Sachs shocks to Bilstein cartridges. In order to do this, the orignal strut has to be cut and a new sleeve with thread has to be welt in the strut.

The video has a German soundtrack, but English subtitles are added to YouTube. If you don't see them by defaut, watch the video directly at YouTube and press the subtitle button below the frame.

Enjoy it,

Jürgen

I am speechless, this puts my hacksaw mods to shame. Nice touch getting the little Fraulein to help.

Even if you aren't planning this mod, worth watching just to see a master craftsman in action. The epitome of "taking your time and doing it right". Bravo.

Love this guy's videos. Thanks for posting! The beginning of this video will probably be helpful for me this weekend, in replacing the rubber stop and boot, both of which have disintegrated.

Interesting, I wondered about this also, getting some compatible strut bodies with gland nuts and welding the tops of those to the late strut body but all the modding makes it pretty questionable to mke the effort. The general idea in my case would be to have more softer options than the Koni hacksaw mod.

Recently I have been looking at Audi front shocks and it might be that the A4/Passat shock could be fitted if you chop off the "stirrup" at the right distance and thread what's left to bolt in like the Koni Hacksaws:

Internal spacer diameter unknown.

The video has a German soundtrack, but English subtitles are added to YouTube. If you don't see them by default, watch the video directly at YouTube and press the subtitle button below the frame.

Enjoy it,

Does anyone offer this service? Jürgen - how's shipping from Germany to the USA?

It's also possible to retrofit the early threaded strut-housing to a late-suspension car. Needs:

- 2mm shim on spindle clamp
- extend slotted hole for different hole-spacing (slotted hole becomes a rectangle)
