Modifying 951
I know there is another board for the turbo but no one really talks on that board, And i know i do not have a 951, YET! But.....I just wanted some information on some good upgrades for 951's for cheap. I know a 25 dollar boost controller will probably be the cheapest way to boost HP. But is it really safe? Ive read alot of people buying chips. For under about 500 bucks, what is the safets and biggest HP gain mods you can do. I would figure just up the boost and an exhaust right? Say you had about 2000, what would be the best thing to do for a street used car? Thanks

Boost controller Larger turbo FPR Chips suspension suspension suspension But not necessarily in that order.

With a budget of $2k, I wouldn't even think about a turbo. I'd do exaust, chips, and a mbc if you're looking for more power...

I guess I was thinking about a nice EBAY type used Huntley cheater, or a K28/8 from a 911. Something like that.
Several have sold recently for under $500

Get one of those new MAP kits that just hit the market and a test pipe. You will also need to get some guages

If you only have $500 to spend and you never intend to do anything else to the car, by all means go with a set of chips. It is absolutely the cheapest horsepower you can buy. However, the chips will be mapped for your current setup and if you do other modifications down the road, you've just wasted $500 that could have been spent elsewhere.
If you plan to continue your modifications down the road, don't waste your money on the chips. Save up until you can buy a fuel control system (i.e. MAF or MAP with programmable fuel controller) and a manual boost controller. You can do all this within your $2000 window. Then you can do whatever other mods you want to do down the road without having to worry about getting a set of chips to match your setup. Finally, if you plan to go big time with the modifications down the road where there are few limitations, save up till you have about $3500, and invest in a complete stand alone engine managment system. Typically, what you get with a complete engine management system over just a fuel control system is control over the ignition timing and in most cases a direct-fire ignition. And, anybody with a great deal of experience with engine tuning will tell you that ignition advance plays a vital role in controlling an ultra-high performance engine. Many of the stand alone systems now also provide you with knock control, electronic boost control, complete control over the fuel and ignition maps, engine cooling fan control capability, data logging, and some will even control NOS systems. The bottom line is to develop a plan for where you want to take the car as far as performance. You don't have to be rich to build a high performance 944 Turbo (although it helps). You just have to make your purchases in small chunks to get to your ultimate performance goal. Heck, I've been actively modifying my own car for almost 10 years and I'm still not done. But, I get closer and closer with each purchase. Regards, Clark
