Injector Installation

When we took our injectors out last week, I found a thin film of clear gasket sealer around the injectors and the intake's injector bores. I thought this was a little on the "rigging" side because the seals are in great shape. The repair manual says that you use a light coat of oil on the seals to install them.
Is this the best way or does anyone have another suggestion?

Actually you are supposed to use new ATF on the seals.

Once you've pulled them, you are supposed to replace them.

Pep Boys, sells the seal kits - $2.50 each (something like that)

I did a tech article on it, you can find it here:

YO, HEAR ME OUT!!! The hats from pepboys dont fit!!! The only thing from pepboys you can usee is the o-rings and the spacers. The hats do not fits at all! I dont know if our injectors are the same but I busted one open trying to get it on! The hats from pelican fit great! I'm talking about the yellow ones! They fir in the injectors nice and snug. Look for my other post, I added pictures of the yellow hat on the injector.

I agree with Overkill. The Yellow kit he purchased at Pep Boys is not the correct type of injector tip. It does not atomize the fule in the correct way. The pelican kit is the correct replacement/oem type of Tip.

I saw overkills post after I posted my question. I'm glad to know that the Pepboys yellow caps don't fit.

Thanks for the dielectric grease tip.

Wait, pepboys has the blue caps! The yellow caps I got off the net from another supplier. The yellow caps do fit but the top of the cap does not have the bevel to it. Look at the pictures I posted, the ones where i circled the tips. I am going to use a drill bit and create my own bevel. It should be fairly easy as long as you use a brand new bit. I think the most important thing is that the bevel is smooth.

I just did mine yesterday. It went great!! Car has a lot smoother acceleration at speed. I used Napa kit # 2-12085. They had the blue cap. I lubed the o-rings with atf. Only problem I had was getting the old caps off. They ended up just breaking apart. When I tried to pry the first one off and it broke apart,I just about messed my pants up thinking I messed up the tip!! Luckily I didn't. The new caps are a little hard to get on, but with a little pressure they snap down. I didn't know what to use for a 2mv power source as called for in the tech article here at pelican, so I just sprayed with carb cleaner. Thanks for the great tech article.

I used the Pep Boys kit on mine (85.5) and they we quite tight fitting on and I did break on of the caps, but they all seem to work fine when you do get them on.
