86 NA Block and Turbo Block

What were the differences on the 86 NA block..... compared to the turbo 86.... ?

I can't remember if there were some castings differences or water cooling passages that were different???

Anyone have a diagram showing the difference?

86 vs. 86 turbo? I assume you mean the bare block only. If this is the case, I believe there maybe very slight oil passange mods at the bottom, and cylinder liners should be thicker on the turbo block. I've heard that these two are interchangable, I've actually seen it done on a turbo S that drove like a piece and leaked oil badly but it's owner thought it was fine... Anyway, this is a tough call, both the turbo and the na blocks were updated in late 85.

Yup Ahmet.... I was referring to just the core block. I ran into someone that built a race engine out of the 86 NA block and turbo internals for a track car....so I figure that the swap can be done....
As far as I knew the blocks were the same, but I am wondering if their were any minor casting differences like you mention (oil / coolant passages). I have a great NA block with Turbo internals that I want to swap into another turbo for a track car......

I would imagine I would have to tap in all the applicable sensors....

I can't think of any sensors that bolt to the block aside from oil presure and oil level so you should be all set there. I'm not positive if there are any differences just on the block itself, I think the liners are thicker for the turbo block, and some other minor passage differences (about which I'm even less sure). I dont' think it'd be a problem to do the swap, I've seen it done.

Far as I know they are visually identical (aside from the cylinder thickness etc.)

All of the "internal" sensors are in the same place and should be tapped for them already (temp and DME temp sensor) Everything else bolts into the head or other parts.
