You got that dead right!

Every year I look at the new cars on the lot and think to myself "They couldn't possibly make these cars any uglier."

And every year they prove me wrong!!

Agreed!
I've been thinking about upgrading my MB coupe but they've rounded the vehicle so much... And they're now using this crap piano (glossy) black interior trim which attracts dust like crazy. I think I'll keep my 2012 unless I find a great deal on a SL500-550, although my wife wants me to get the new Maserati Ghibli (what a gal!!). Anyone got $65k laying around?

They were geared for European motorways, there was no speed limit on Autobahns back then and you could drive them flat out thereon. Driving down to the Nurburgring on the E61 in 1989 or so, I held my 924S at an indicated 130mph all the way. Only car to pass me was a BMW 3.0CSL. And then when it came to track driving, it was pretty peerless for a volume produced 2+2 car of its engine size back then.
30 years later , surprise surprise, car performance has improved

no one cares. its 2016.

they are slow, get over it.

And your MR2 isnt slow? And certain versions of the current Renault Clio are faster than a 951!!!

After November 8th, maybe no-one will care about anything any more

It is what you make it.

Ok, so someone I never heard of doesnt like 944s, I have seen this before. First of all Most of the specimeens out there barely run or dont run at all. The 80s WAS a while ago folks. It took me YEARS to straighten out my ride to the point where it performs like a champion. So It being a semi free country I will agree that other people are free to believe thier delusions. Further, someone who is used to a differnt power curve might not be able to hit the shift points and get the most out of the engine. I forgive thier ignorance as thier opinion can only be swayed by experiencing and driving a exeplary specimen. Good luck with that one and no, You aint driving mine.

You can have your, s2000, or (insert generic muscle car or fiberglass body wrapping a smog motor) And you will still catch my gravel around the corners. Words are words, Opinions are opinions, Happy day to you all SmileWavy

Actually, whilst agreeing wholeheartedly with SolReaver, there are some pretty nice looking examples beginning to appear at classic car shows in England, so good ones do still exist, albeit not many. For example, there are only less than 100 924S left on the UK roads( quite a few off the road but still registered however so some of those might re-emerge as values increase to the point where its worth spending some money on them).

As an owner of a 951, having redone 3 944's I think there's a little bit of "the Never Ending Story" associated with trying to get these great cars to where, ideally, we'd like them to be. It's the challenge to constantly improve them without making them ugly that appeals to us. I'm still restoring my 951 barn find and I'm ending up addressing virtually EVERY one of the failure or repair issues you read about on this forum. Bruised knuckles, cat litter and a colorful vocabulary are all side-affects that invariably become a product of this kind of project. I love it.

That car has a fart can exhaust, of course it sounds like a toilet flushing.

A stock, well maintained 944.. pretty special. Of course they're slow, but overall they ooze engineering excellence and phenomenal build quality with comfort, practicality and very good looks.

I've driven a lot of cars, from vintage to exotics, and a crisp low mileage '83 944 to me is still one of the most fun and memorable.

Well said and agree.

The 944 NA is a fun car, plain and simple. It is a four cylinder N/A 8 valve car. If the last sentence needs explanation, then I suggest you find a good book on engines and learn something about how engines work before you go buy one and expect something different.

The 944 is a very balanced and good handling sports car. They are well built and solidly reliable if you properly maintain the car. The car is not complicated but the engineering put into the car for the early eighties is outstanding. The car has enjoyable power delivery, outstanding throttle response, excellent braking and extremely good handling that is safe for the driver of average skill. The car just pivots around your body.

The 944 will easily do 100+ mph. How fast do you want/need to go? Remember, the max speed limit is usually 70 mph.

By the way, I had a Flowmaster 40 series muffler welded on my 83 with stock exhaust header and CAT. It sounds respectable and not that four cylinder 'fart-can' noise.

One small comment to ensure complete honesty and keep my integrity in place, I really do need a '87 to '89 911 one day. As soon as I get two young men through college.

Looks like a red 944 Turbo is in the pipeline for his channel. It looks like it's in good condition too.
