Turbo struts
Hello,
I am looking into buying a pair of turbo struts and springs, the complete setup takin from a 86 951, for $50. First off.....Good deal? *Will it fit directly into my car? *Are the turbo struts the replaceable strut inserts like the n/a? *Do i need to buy different struts to fit these then for a n/a? *How much better are they than the n/a? *Are there better upgrades to fit on the turbo struts and springs than n/a? *Are the stock turbo springs stiffer than the stock n/a? *Any lower? If someone could help me out with all of this, that would be great, thanks alot John |

I also forgot to ask...
Would i use the same "top cap and rubber" thing that it bolts to inside the engine bay? And will my strut bar still work with these? Thanks alot John |

The struts won't fit at all. The area where they bolt to the spindle is too narrow and there is a wider bolt pattern. The springs will work with your stock non-turbo struts, they may make your front sit a *little* lower, and they have a higher springrate than the stock non-turbo springs (not sure of the #'s though, 140 vs 110? Maybe someone knows for sure). Your stock top cap and bearings will work with the springs as well. I really don't think it's worth buying them, unless you are planning on getting new inserts for your stock non-turbo struts anyway and also want a slightly stiffer spring rate. Then, if verything is already apart and you are messing up your alignment anyway, you could throw those springs on. If you want a larger improvement, get 200lb springs from Pelican or Paragon.....
Hope that helps! Tifo

They may have udated to Turbo spindles that allow the use of Turbo struts and larger brake calipers (as I have as well). I didn't even go deep into that upgrade because I am not sure how much $$ you want to spend. That $50 purchase could easily snowball into a lot more cash. It sounds like you were really interested because it seemed like a deal.
I don't have any personal experience with Tokico, but I do with Koni. Many people on the board here are Koni users. The Yellow Konis for both the 951 struts and 944n/a struts are very similar. The diameter of the cylinders of the struts are different, as the 951 struts are much larger and "beefier" with thicker metal at the area the strut contacts the spindle as well. Hope that helps! ![]() Tifo

well these are the ones i am looking at:
Tell me if these will work, what exactly are the spindles? Do i need the brakes? Robm 951: Do i need the 951 calipers, can i use the 944 calipers on the 944? Will the brake lines and sensors hook right up to the turbo brake system? Thanks John |

The spindle is the part of the suspension that sortof holds everthing together. It contains the bearing......and the brakes, a-arm, and struts attach to it. The n/a brakes will not fit turbo spindles, the bolt pattern is different.
