Alright now. I decided to go ahead and pull out my gas tank since i smelled some fumes in the car after it had been sitting a while. While i was pulling out the transaxle i decided to go ahead and go get the cv shafts rebuilt. Well after i got the transaxle out i went under the car and i started turing the driveshaft in the torque tube. Should there be any playin the shaft. i could turn it a quarter turn to the right.. then it connected.. then a quarter turn to the left.. then it connected.. I think that may be my clank clank.. ANY THOUGHTS?

I had the same problem and it was my clutch. I checked wheel berings they were fine, checked cv joints some wear so I replaced them. The noise didnt go away. I took it to he shop and it was the clutch. I had they same play in my torque tube but I thought the sound came from the right rear wheel, and the clutch had been replaced less than 40k ago. Mechanic assured me that it had to be the clutch. $900 later no problems

Yeah! A "fun" fix....
So how's our credibility now????? Oh, by the way...don't forget to check the vent hoses that go up to the filler neck. And take all of the black 3M tar like sealer putty off the cover for the filler and put an even bead/layer on before you reseat it. And watch out for the gush of fuel when you remove the line from the fuel pump to the filter. Best to drain the tank before you take it out. There is a filter screen at the bottom of the fuel tank. You may want to take that out and clean it and also flush the tank out. Don't loose the gasket.

Get a new one, what year is your 944? The original "hockey puck" clutches can be updated to the turbo spring centered clutch for less than the purchase of a rubber center clutch.
About the clutch job, it's not that bad, and you already have the transaxel out, so your at least a 1/4 into the job already.
