Odd starting problem

Anybody have any ideas?
83' 944. Problem, intermittent no tach bounce when starting.
Here is the odd part of it. It only does it if my car is hot. Not if the engine is hot, the car. If I park either in my garage or shade it starts fine. After work, no shade, no tach bounce. If I unplug and reconnect the speed and ref sensors it starts right up. The DME is good and I installed a sensor harness from Lindsey. I'm scratching my head on this one. Any thoughts or ideas on this one?

Are you saying that if the car (not engine) is hot the car does not start...or starts but with no tach bounce? If the latter...then it sounds like a sketchy tach-gage connection.

Yes, if the car is hot I get a no tach bounce. Sitting in the parking all day, I have to unplug and reconnect the speed and ref sensors. Once it has started I don't have any further problems with it. It idles smooth and if I have to stop anywhere it restarts just fine.

Just a suggestion. Might get a can of freeze spray , or maybe a can of duster and turn it upside down, and spray both connectors rather than disconnect and reconnect them. Is there any way they're actually touching the hood?

You have bad DME relay. It gets hot and cracked solder joints expand causing contact to be broken broken or resistance induced. When cold no problem. They can be re-soldered. Do a search on the 944online forum, 944 blog.
