I had the similar issue. Check that you are using the right nipple that attached to the water pump from the overflow tank Some are blanks, some open flow into the water pump.

You are not supposed to let it boil over, just get the air out and then close up the system.
Bleeding IMO is really easy and people are making far too big a deal out of it. It can be done with the engine off and cold with my method: Crack loose the bleeder and close Remove the coolant tank cap and fill the tank Fish out the overflow hose and indifferently wipe clean the far end Put a wrench on the bleeder, hold this in your left hand Put the overflow hose in your mouth (do not suck!) Put your right palm over the filler neck Blow into the overflow hose, pressurizing the coolant reservoir Open the bleeder, then close, then stop blowing Do this maybe twice and stop when coolant is coming out the bleeder w/o bubbles. Top off coolant to full-cold and cap off the system, fish the overflow back where it belongs, rinse your mouth out and go drive. You can also use a cooling system pressure tester to the same effect but my 'hoser' method is so easy I might not even get the tester off the shelf (if I owned one) just to quick bleed the cooling system. I've also just allowed it to bleed while on ramps, engine hot, heat on, etc. and that works fine but this is better IMO as you can bleed it before first start. Drilling a 1mm hole in the t-stat flange (where the jiggle valve would be) also helps but is not critical.

A method I’ve used with success. Pull the hose from the front of the cylinder head and fit a curved hose to use as a filler. Fill the engine cooling capacity through the cylinder head until it overflows. Fill the radiator through the top hose you pulled until it overflows then reattach the hose to cylinder head. Make sure expansion tank is full. Start the car with exp cap removed and open bleed screw when engine is warm and tstat is open. Close once coolant flows out. Reattach exp cap.
