928Turbosports: new dual gauge product prototype
I really dislike the dual gauge pods I had on my last forced-inducted cars: too much area lost to the gauges, so I came up with this idea: this is the prototype (actual ones will be powder-coated black steel), so don't getpicky over radius' or finish.
Gauges are placed in between factory gauge so that the critical parts of your factory gauges can still be read. Thoughts?

I don't like it. It blocks the view of the bottom half of the fuel gauge. Thats bad.

that's what your warning light is for: triggers your System warning on the 928's, so it' kinda hard to run out of gas, even with the bottom of the gauge blocked from your immediate vision (You can always look over the gauge a biti if you need: the gauge is only 2" deep.
Still better than ashtray or gauge pod mounts (my opinion)

Here is where mine is located...
![]() This is a auto-meter unit for a Ford Mustang that I heated and re-fitted to the 928's interior. It works pretty well and is not too overpowering.

I found the 3000GT gauge pod to be the closest match, however, with two on there, raked towards the windshield a little, it was a bit cluttered (see picture). This was taken before the days of the 52mm Wideband O2 sensors, whereas this gauge was good to ensure you were still operating within closed-loop (ie, within O2 calibration).

Yes, certainly the most OEM, however, I don't like trying to focus on a gauge out of my line of sight while I'm fishtailing at 80mph. Doh!

I don't care for the dual guage look...KISS...all I need is manifold pressure.

So what do you do with manifold pressure?
Datalogging and tuning I can understand, but whats the point in watching it?

Blow a wastegate line on a ball bearing turbocharger and watch how quickly you overboost...it is a means of check to keep the engine safe.

Wouldn't some kind of control response need to be automatic to protect anything?
Its the kind of eye candy I love, but seems like a good job for a warning light and automatic response from the engine management .

sorry Mark, the gauges on the steering column don't get my vote.
My choice: add extras to either side of the clock, or in the ash tray area---don't smoke, don't need it---or the left A-pillar. ------- ![]()

gauges
Yes, I understand the placement: but when you're trying to keep your car straight at 90mph, having your necessary gauges directly in your path of sight is a godsend.
I would have wrecked my 928 by now with tastefully placed gauges in the ashtray-area. ![]()

I always watch my boost gauge, just like I watch the tach or speedo. The clock area is a bad location...my Callaway has the gauge there...I left it because that is the way it was done way back in 83...its a nice piece of history.
Any good driver can tell if something is not correct...i.e. the car is overboosting.

Who was that guy who put a digital boost and A/F display in his existing gauge cluster. That was a really trick install. I saw pics of it on Rennlist about a year ago.

Looks like a viable option for someone who would want it there. I went with the 2 gauge pillar from 928 Motorsports.
