Porsche Crest Mounting dimensions for a 928 rear wing

Does anyone have the mounting dimensions for the rear wing for a 928? I have a 1978 928 euro spec 5spd. I purchased the rear wing from a later model (they give a fantastic look to the back of this car) I need the mounting dimension from the trailing edge of the hatch to the centerline on the first mounting hole. Preferably measured across the top surface

Thanks

This is the larger black wing off of the GTS

"The value will be reduced also."

So maybe $1400 instead of $1500?

1500.00 I am surprised that it is worth that little. It is in pefect condition with only 42,000 miles.

Still I need the measurements I could also use trailing edge of the tail mounting surface to the trailing edge of the hatch

Jack,
If it is in as good condition as you think and the miles are real you are looking at $6 to 10K.
Why spoil it with the rear wing. The value would be reduced significantly - $3 to 5K.
If you want to put on a spoiler put on the factory black rear spoiler from the 80 through 86.

The latest 928 modification is to remove the rear wing from the later cars. Now that looks awesome. The rear wing really dates the car.

Before you spoil your car buy a rear hatch and modify that so at least you can return the car to the original position.

Just my 5c worth.

Did some searching for you.

This guy put one on his 82, some picts and maybe you could ask him directly.
http://groups.msn.com/socal928/928ownerprofile.msnw

Mark Kibort also put a GTS wing on his S4.

928intl.com sells a reproduction wing, so may have some info on install.

I'd have to agree with that as well. Don't ruin a great low mileage 928 with 4 drilled holes. Great suggestion ROG.

And danglerb was just givin' you a hard time. But it sounds like you have a really nice 928. Try and keep it that way...............

My dear Roger,

As we have only just met, I have to digress on this. Only the GTS's looks fantastic with out the rear wing. Dated you say? Yes, but only having an S4, I have to say that since I don't have the rather wide rear wheel covers of the GTS, my car looks like a Pinto. Or it could just be that I am a man stuck in the 1980's.

Wish you my best.

On Edit: Do just grab another hatch if you wish you put the S4 wing on an OB, that way you can go back to original. I'm sure you could pick up a hatch for next to nothing.

Hi Bob,
Having now seen the S4 without the wing I agree it does not look as good as the GTS without the wing. The GTS looks awesome without the wing - mine in particular - I guess I am biased 8>)
Roger

Jacd2001,
If you need a hatch to butcher let me know as I have a few.
Think about the 80 to 86 spoiler before you use the 87 to 95 spoiler.

I know the 928 Gods will strike me down for doing this - but here goes :-

The center line for each hole is 15mm from the edge of the hatch.
Extending the line that is 15mm from the edge of the hatch down to where it intersects with the bottom edge of the hatch the measurment from that point to the center line of the first hole is 197mm.

Say after me 10 times - "do not put an 87 to 95 wing on the trunk of a beutiful OB 928"

Lets sticky the thread and rename it to, Roger's OB GTS wing install guide.

Jack-----

I didn't have the dims to put one on mine----I just set the wing where I thought it should ride, drilled holes where they should be, and bolted the thing on. The rear edge of the wing is parallel to the rear edge of the rear bumper cover when looking down.

Suggestion:

use an allen head type bolt. the early hatches do not have any indentations underneath to allow for a hex head bolt (bolt head).

I have a spare hatch if you need one to practice on......

I also have a spare "S" style 3-piece spoiler if you want to go that route as well.....

And yes, removing a wing from a GTS will damn sure lower it's value.....

IT'S YOUR CAR, JACK!!!! DO WITH AS YOU LIKE!!!!

rhjames,
If you read the thread completely and did not jump in "all guns blazing" you would realize that replacing the hatch with another and thereby preserving the original hatch will not reduce the value. Jack has already stated that that is what he is going to do. That is what I have done on my GTS also - no value reduction here.
Just pulling your chain 8>)

I would like to thank everyone for the information

Well a simple project of drilling four holes has turned into buying a new hatch and waiting for it to arrive. I really do believe in preserving the older porsches. but the GTS wing does upgrade the appearance of the earlier models.

BTW does anyone here know Chuck Beck I have known him for years and will be getting one of his 904 replicas
