79 928 firing sequence needed

I've looked all over... can someone tell me which cylinders fire in what order? I bought a 928 and am putting in new plugs wires but can't seem to find what the firing sequence is. Thanks!

firing order is:

1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8

cylinders are as follows when looking from front of engine to the rear:

Passenger side: 1-2-3-4

Driver side: 5-6-7-8

I suggest that you remove only one plug cable at a time for replacement.

If you have taken all of the plug cables (wires) off at the same time, you can take the #1 spark plug out, put your finger over the hole and bump the engine until the piston forces the air out (this brings the piston to top-dead-center). Then remove the distributor cap to see which plug cable (wire) the rotor is pointing to. This one will be cylinder #1. You can then follow the rotation of the rotor in sequence with the firing order to attach the remaining plug cables to the distributor cap.

Hope this helps----

Glad I could help.

You will find this info in the Factory Workshop Manuals, volume 1 (Engine, technical data, engine) page 0.5-----

if you don't have a set of FWM's, contact Jim Morehouse for the CD's.

his email is jim928@ptd.net

the entire set including PET (parts) program and the technical service bulletins is about $80.

You can also find the FWM's on eBay (be careful to buy the entire 9 volume set, some are sold with fewer volumes), for about $400.00, sometimes higher.....

regards----

Distributor Counter Rotation -

Hey Anderwjt, One other ignition problem you might have in Australia, I think that your distributor rotates in the opposite direction down under to counter balance the driver's seat being mounted on the right hand side of the car....

My wife and I spent a couple of vacations up around Mackay and the Great Barrier Reef. During our travels through Eungella I actually saw a platypus in the wild. Great place to visit with lots to see and do -

Good Luck with your car -

Michael
