No substitute for putting some miles on your 928

After a couple years of mostly parked waiting for this or that to be fixed, my 83 US 5 spd has graduated to a cautious driver. I let my wife drive it once, last week took it to Simi Valley (75 miles each way), and tonight I am home from CES in Las Vegas (250 each way).

Driving, really driving a 928 is good for both owner and car.

Trip notes ....

About 25 miles into my Las Vegas trip it dawned on me that flaky speedo means no cruise control. Killed my pedal foot. Guessing speed from rpm was also fun, mostly 2200 with some stretches of 2800 rpm, which I look forward to discovering how wild I was driving.

Cruising at 2200 rpm with ambient temp of 50F I had WAY too much variation in coolant temp reading. Normal, or what happens most of the time is about 1/8" above the lower "normal" range marker. I've seen as high as the upper normal marker around town, especially with AC on, but around town couldn't pin it on anything. Having it move around so much during cruise I think means the radiator despite looking very good must be blocked. Or I have some other fundamental cooling issue, just nothing simple like electric fan controller seems as likely.

Pay a few toll charges and getting a windoor switch fixed sure goes up the priority list.

In my 84S the coolant temp never budges. It's right in the middle, all the time. I really enjoy driving mine. I can drive free cars from work whenever I want but took the 928 to work every day up until it started snowing this winter.

This might have potential, www.dashboarddevices.com

PC that fits in a normal double din dash spot.

CES takes some time to soak in for my purposes. Primarily its a buyer and seller show, and I want tech info and new ideas, so it might be months later that I connect something I saw at CES with some application.

Congrats on the successful drive!

I got around to replacing my leaky clutch slave cylinder today and will most likely do a nice long drive tomorrow.

Dick Tracy watch/ I-phone kind of thing......

wrist watch, just like any other, but with a I-phone type touch screen with all of the usual stuff.....

hope this thing doesn't make it to market, no matter what the cost, cause it'll be the next greatest thing every kid will want to have---and mine two haven't even graduated up to I-phones yet.

UGhhhhh.
