Jeff, Sounds good. I've only seen two other Porsches in town - a white 928 and a silver 944. Someone has a 1980 928 for sale in the paper for $20,000. Let's see if we can talk off-line.

1978 cashmere Beige

Hi all.....this is my Cashmere Beige (502)..1978 5sp with 89k on the clock..its #267...so would this be a low production #'ed car?....been looking all over/around the net...never seen another 928 in this color...was it rare?.....im not saying its the best looking color..lol...here in the AZ desert....park it out of the town or city...and you would never find it again...lol...it blends right into the desert soil..lol...anyways...as you can just see, the pasche interior is toast....as is the CIS system....but hope to have that sorted by next week....buying the whole system of "barbapapa"...all new or rebuilt...from his ex racer....
..forgot to say...this car as you see it was heading to the junkyard...A son owned it..was parked in his dads driveway for 5yrs...dad wanted it gone.."NOW"...bought it on a friday evening of C'list..it was to be towed saturday lunchtime to the junkyard...i paid $900 for it...will post a engine pic when i put it all back re: injectors ,WUR ,fuel dist etc

Looks like a score to me! I like it!

american-kiwi 04-12-2009 07:22 PM

Hi MPDano....thanks...been reading your posts on the other forums with the 45 pages!...glad to see you got your car smogged and reg'ed!...if you can do then so can i..LOL..although we dont have smog testing here in this part of AZ....cant wait to get her running right!....i have driven it...but it runs like s*#t....John

MPDano 04-12-2009 08:16 PM

Yeah, I tried to document every part of the project process, hence the 45 pages. I am looking forward to painting her now. Before, with the smog issues, I was starting to think that I did all this work for a track car. Look at it this way, at least yours runs, mine had a seized engine. We'll get you sorted out!

Danglerb 04-12-2009 08:35 PM

Nice looking car, color is a bit unusual, but I've seen a few others.

Seems like only about the first 50 cars by VIN have any differences from the main production.

american-kiwi 04-12-2009 08:54 PM

what gets me with this car...is...how could you send it to the junkyard?!!...the house i got it from in Glendale(PHX) AZ...there was no shortage of money!...why not just send it in and have it fixed at a shop?...it was funny, going to the house...
the old man just bought a new 300c...and had to park it in the street...lol...he was not a happy camper...son didnt want to sell it....i guess father over powers son when they still live at home...lol

MrGST 04-12-2009 09:05 PM

That seems like a great deal, the paint and body are in very good to excellent condition and the interior, minus the seat bottoms, is very, very nice. Congrats!

american-kiwi 04-12-2009 09:23 PM

Yes..body is very clean...most of the paint is still original...but it did have a few touch ups here and there...cant see it in the pic's..but you can when you look at the car in person...only bad spots are around the door handles...being alloy...pushing the doors closed too hard...today i was busy glueing all the vinyl back together...re: tops of door panels, hatch vinyl , carpet letting go etc...paint is just starting to peel off around the back/lower hatch...but not rusting out yet.....John

Danglerb 04-13-2009 12:32 AM

Solid color I think means you can do a fair amount of spot painting and blend it in to the original paint, which is MUCH cheaper than repainting.

Previous owners have to be nuts, I mean they sold a 928! ;) How nuts just varies on a case by base basis.

My 928

Brian here,

Heres a pic of my daily driven 1980 gray market 928S. Had it around nine years and love it. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1239613039.jpg

SharkTech 04-14-2009 07:38 PM

Hey all, I'm outta Havertown PA...

Love the assortment of awesome 928's here, tons of great looking cars.
Here's mine, another gray market car, euro block, 5spd, LSD, tons of exhaust work, super loud and mean. Recent body/paint work and it shows... Rear S Spoiler delete, adding S4/GT wing in progress, etc.

1980 interior updates like the new porsches

1980 interior updates like the new porsches. Center dash and door pods are now painted aluminum. Pictures are a little blurry from my camera phone but the interior looks very sweet, the car just needed a fresh updated look to it.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1242241918.jpg

Looks Great! Did you bust out the Aluminum Paint on some those parts or are they polished?

tedward515 05-14-2009 10:52 AM

Looks great and very clean, gotta love it. Sharp color, I think the 84 that I just bought is the same but I'm not sure. Its been resprayed and its faded from the Florida sun.

Great job John! The only rust I see are on the bolts holding the brace bar.

american-kiwi 05-14-2009 12:52 PM

you had to find something didnt you?... :-)....took me a while to fix the rad'...the left side was all pushed in..i guess from a pressure washer...got a rad' comb (HF)...and fixed all the fins...next is to get the AC working again...but being on workmans comp for at least the next 4 months...wouldnt look good trying to fix my car in the shop (Sierra Toyota)...lol

MPDano 05-14-2009 12:56 PM

Close the Drapes and Garage Door and work away. Don't give those Insurance Cops a picture view of you, then you'll be golden.

american-kiwi 05-14-2009 01:06 PM

thats not the problem...i already do that..lol...i need to use the r12 machine at work!..
re: recover, vac , recharge..those home kits from wallyworld are junk...we still use R12 at the shop...and then its free too...lol
good R12 is getting pricy!!

Stoolie 05-20-2009 12:28 AM

Ok - here we go...

1991 S4 - New to Mizwa in Japan, imported into New Zealand around September 2004, and has around 83,000KM on the clock, although as the last owner stuck fat feet on the back, the speedo doesn't read correctly. Previous owner also took it to a less than reputable garage for an oil change and service, and the resulting oil filter and filings threw the big end, and cost him a new(ish) engine - one was found for similar milage in a wrecked '87 S4.

american-kiwi 05-20-2009 12:01 PM

Hey Stoolie!!...im from ChCh too...been here in the USA since 03...and loving every min' of it...i dont miss that damn cold ChCh weather one bit!!..for the readers from the states..ChCh is like Seattle WA...rains 5 out of 7 days...did you/they get the car into NZ before they changed the import law to 96 or newer?...

Stoolie 05-21-2009 01:05 PM

Hmm - I posted a reply yesterday, but I suspect the way I described the interior colour (likening the blue leather to something befitting a member of the adult film industry in the 80's) may have tripped a filter somewhere.

Anyway - I was going to say that the weather isn't that bad - except it has rained for 3 days now, and isn't likely to stop until next week!

I got the car last year off a chap who had been trying to sell it for 6 months, and had ended up moving to the Gold Coast - so he was very motivated to tie up loose ends here. He had been the first NZ owner after it was landed in Tauranga. For some reason the importer decided that the spoilers (both front and back) shouldn't be black, and sprayed them the same as the rest of the car. The finish isn't too bad, but close inspection shows it's not original.

There were some news reports after I got it about cars being stolen in the UK, laundered through Russia and ending up in Japan - but then I found the Mizwa sticker on the hatch, and the new 928 book from Amazon confirmed that they were the dealers in the '90s, so I think it's legit. Only dodgy thing is the missing options sticker - just a spot of adhesive where it was. Is there any way to get these details from the factory from the VIN?

spiffcheese 05-21-2009 01:37 PM

here is the love of my last a bit sad but it is my first car :p
