center console help, take a part procedures wanted

Hello My fellow 928 owners,
I need to replace my a/c switch that is connected with the central warning light and central locking switch/light, the question is what is the easiest way to get that section of the console apart enough to change out the switch and wiring harness? - if you have photo's that would be great, or if you can direct me to a site that spells out the procedure that would me most helpful, thank you to all that respond - Tom

1. remove the right side parcel shelf. 2 10mm at each front corner and 2 10mm at the bottom of the glovebox ( warning conector is runs along the r/s harness.)

2. remove the right side console panel, 2 phillips head screws

3. remove the trim around the shifter and radio and upper console

4.. remove the 2 phillips for the central warning panel, disconnect flat connectors from underneath, may be easier to access by moving the radio up slightly. panel will pull straight out of the center console.

I hope this helps.

On my 87, only step 4 in David's write up is applicable. There is a black trim piece that goes around the ventilation control module, the central door lock manual and the radio ending at the clock. To remove that bezel, we had to remove the upper central vent. It just pulled out, but two of plastic retaining pins were broken. You will probably need to remove your radio too.

With the central vent removed, You can work the black bezel out. Dr. Bob has a write up of that process in his A/C relay replacement write-up. "The center vent pulls straight out to remove. The trim bezel surrounding the controller and switch panel below it also pulls in, up and out. It is not necessary to do any disassembly of the console except from the front as described." You may need a helper to pull the center console edges outward since the they cover that trim piece/bezel. After the black bezel is removed, I had access to the central lock console retaining screws.

Once you have pulled out the central air grill, then with a thin screwdriver gently pry one side of the H cover ( this part surrounds the HVAC and goes down to the radio) as you push on the inside edge of the console , once its out a bit then slide it up about a 1/4 in. then work it off the console.
To swap out the AC part you will also need to remove the screws for the HVAC head unit this part needs to slide out of the console a bit but it doesnt have to be disconnected.
Once you have the 6 screws out then the AC portion will disengage from the HVAC part and can be slide out to disconnect the black plug and the 2 wire harness plugs previously mentioned in the other post.
Refit the 6 screws with a magnetic screwdriver so you dont drop the washers into the radio.
Then the H trim slides back into place , make sure the HVAC and the AC panels are centered.
